Man, they sure chose an expensive LCD to work with. And those comments are whacked people are putting up there.

To get a "real" HD experience, all you have to do is use an HDTV LCD as the strip. /boggle

Oh well, some people are happy in their ignorance.

everytime a DIY projector gets posted on another site, be in engadget, avsforum, etc, it gets bashed for being dim, unevenly lit, and poor focus.. this is of course because no one bothers to actually visit our site and see that none of these are problems (brightness not an issue if watched in a dark room).

Part 2 has been posted...

I hate it when people do thes reviews and bash, bash bash... On the plus side, however, they do spark interest in the DIY scene and more people get involved. For those of us shoe-stringing it, the more feed a site gets, the more likely it will be stumbled on. I know I didn't know about DIY projectors until other sites made comments.

Just FYI, they are up to part 5

Their design is not bad really. I think they will get some glowies from the side rails if they don't do some black matte painting.

weldonjb,

Thanks for keeping this thread alive!! (I forget about it...).

If you listen to the last hack a day pod cast the guy talkes a little bit about his build (same writer for engadget). Says he really enjoys its so far but spent too much time and money on it... of course he did buy pricey parts..

Could not agree more. I am so sick of people bashing DIY projectors on sites like those. Yeah the publicity is nice, but the readers bash them when they have no idea what they're talking about. I've finally mostly finished my projector accept for a few minor tweaks needed, and it's the most fun I've ever had with any project. This thing looks amazing in all lighting conditions. I've seen many commercial projectors, and I still prefer mine.

Looks like they did a really nice job.
Think they will want a do-over when they find out about the 10.6?
