I will be starting my second PJ soon which will also be my senior project (going to build a microcontroller for all the sensing/movement/etc.). Assuming I have unlimited funds (sort of a stretch but my parents are willing to contribute to the cause so I can get my damn degree already), what options do I have. The reason I ask is because I see the solution to many of the lighting issues being solved by a smaller screen and thus the possibilty of efficient reflectors/condensors/etc. Not to mention something smaller than my 4 foot behemoth would be nice. 15.4" is a possiblity but I'm thinking more like 10" or 8".
Whats out there?

pretty sure you're stuck with 15.4"

15.4 is pretty much the only game in town

... there are 1.65" WUXGA LCD's used for
commercial 1080p projectors... and you'd need 3 of them for a commercial type setup... and i'm sure they are rediculously expensive... and... i'll just stop there...
yea... just like pagercam said... 15.4" is the only game in town!

Isn't the Hami 8" also 1024x768?

The 8" Hami is 800x600 native.

not much longer... there is now a 1080p panel that measures 7.1"

http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/17/sanyo-e...he-worlds-smal/I can't even count all the benefits this will bring...footprint, pic quality, evenness of light, brightness...O.K. I can count to four.
Can't wait for this to come out (at a reasonable price that is).

Won't having a smaller screen mean that to get the same size projected image, you will be projecting an image that looks worse than with a bigger screen? say.. the 15-17" vs 7"? I'll keep my big box if that is the case..

Likely not, because a 15.4 wuxga and a 7.1 wuxga both have the same amount of pixels, it's just the pixels per inches are smaller. With a 7.1" lcd, the projector will be smaller, that will also make a brighter and more even projection because theres less area for the light to spread around. Also this 7.1", epson says it has better color rendering or even 100% ntsc colors, or something like that. With the 15.4 wuxga however, u might be able to get a large projected image without being as far as the screen as with a 7.1. I don't remember the term for that.

Aye, that is what i'm saying, to get a image the same size you'd have to move it (the 7") back more and wouldn't that make it look worse?
EDIT: Longer throw is what i'm saying would make the image degrade

Not sure. So many variables and not much thought. However...wouldn't a very long throw get in the way when a projector is in use to the point, hey I can see my silhouette just sitting down watching this movie in front of the screen.

I plan on using a my PJ(once I build the damned thing) from 14ft away.. I checked everything in 3D, and I can have my desk+desk chair, and up to 4 seats or a sofa without blocking the screen. Anyway, back to the point.
I really don't care about the size so long as I get the best image I can. (within reason)

I liked this part "2.6-inch TFT LCD panel also announced, touting a 1024x768 XGA resolution "

1080p is 1080p no matter what size the panel is. If you use the stardard LL optics, yes the projector will have to be further from the screen (LL also offers a varifocal triplet for smaller panels) but it will still be a super high def image. Think about commercial projectors.. they use tiny high res lcd screens and it doesnt have a negative effect on the projected image.

Hi everyone, this is my first post, after a very long time of wandering around the forums.
Anyway, I wouldn't think the throw distance would affect the image, but, wouldnt the image be slightly darker for a 8" 1024x768 lcd vs. a 15" 1024x768 lcd, because of the electronics that are on the screen to drive the pixels? Im assuming they aren't transparent, and that they are about the same size in all screens.
