Subject: RE: Status of Eye Cera 400Watt ceramic bulbs

Hi Geri,

Regret to inform that test result with US ballast was no good and we have to start over the test with new lamp design.
Target release is end this year at best.

Thanks,
Take

I called EYE the other day and they said the 4th quarter of this year.

never mind.. I missed posts about this bulb before. Looks like it should be pretty sweet.

It looks like they might have the 250 watt for sale, 15mm arc 20000 lumens.

Did you ask them about the 250 watt?

And the sell sheat with a graph.

I asked him to find out about the whole line 250 and up but specifically for the 400watts. This is considered 4th quarter now so...

that spectrum honestly doesn't look that special....they talk about the red but if you look at the chart it seems way lower than the green and blue...

It should be OK it is a 90 CRI. Using my high tech image capture device I was able t o get an image. I think its good on the green it does have that yellow spike.

I think having a lot less heat and that small 15mm arc will be the plus to this. Also it's more effiecient as well. Should be interesting still waiting on callback. I'll call him back in the morning and see what he says.

I found this range of Eye Cera arc lamps a few weeks ago and made enquires here in Australia.

The 250watter has a 15mm arc length but the local Eye lighting branch could't give me much information about the 400W lamp (arc length or anything else) other than whats on the sell sheet.

The Cera range is not yet stocked in Aus. and they told me they could maybe put in a special order to Japan where they are made but it would take 12-14 weeks to arrive, and thats if they could get them at all. Might be different in the States where there is a bigger market.

You can find the sell sheet here: http://www.eyelighting.com/ss/EQS-N-52-84-00029.pdf

And product data here: http://www.eyelighting.com/tb/MH/CeraArc/E...52-78-55108.pdf

Same problem in the States, they are expected to hit stores 4th quarter.

Got a call back today. Not out yet. I was told early december they should be stocked

I never thought I'd be waiting for a bulb too come out so impatiently... laugh.gif I remember the thread I made about this bulb in March Old Thread 400w Cera Arc EYE... that was when they were expected to come out 3rd quarter 2006.

7 months ago I would laugh at and stoned someone who freqented a thread about a light bulb as much as I check back here

Would I be correct in assuming that it would therefore run on a coil&core ballast also?

That would depend on which coil and core ballast. Would have to be a pulse start ballast or a sodium ballast. I think the sodium ballast would be a better match for it.

Correct, it will only work on an S51 HPS ballast. The standard M59 ballast will not work.
EdZ
My ballast is a pulse-start, labelled only as a 'Thorn SHP400'.

Then it may or may not work. Someone would have to try it. As Litherish said, the correct core and coil ballast is an S51 HPS ballast.

David.

Edit: I found one document that lists the Thorn SHP 400 as an SON type. Isn't that sodium? If so it should work fine.

Ok, a Google search turned up an Ebay auction that states these ballasts will work with MH and HPS. Also turned up a question posted here about 2 years ago. http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...hl=thorn+shp400
I posted this because MMC mentioned something about these not working with US bulbs.

What's going on with these bulbs? I bought a ballast specifically for this bulb. Everyone said it would be out 4th quarter. Then it would be out the first week of December. But there's still no word on them. Someone please find out the status of these bulbs.

I have been in touch with them for the past year and a half. It looks like they just started releasing engineering samples. By the time they are in full production Osram will beet them in the game with the 250W and 400W Powerball. They are scheduled for release in 2007, hopefully soon, have a small ball and single ended. It is ideal for our light setup.

Do you have any idea what ballast will run these bulbs?

My bad. I misread your post after a few too many glasses of wine blink.gif

FWIW I haven't seen anything about a 400watt powerball, only a 320watt which is supposed to be of equivalent brightness.

If we are still talking about the Cera Arc they were designed to run with sodium ballasts; S50 for the 250 Watter and S51 for the 400 W unit. The LL electronic ballast will be able to drive the 400 W bulb.

According to that link, it would be a ballast that provides 100V @ 4.45a ... There has never been an ANSI rating on the Osram HQI & HCI lamps like lamps here in the US.

Finding an available 250W or 400W version of this lamp would be great for our purposes !

If nothing else, when my venture bulb goes dead I may be in the market for something like this.
