I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. After a few weeks of using my LCD, I noticed that a line has developed in the middle of the screen, 1 pixel wide, going diagonally. It is only apparent on dark colors, as it shows up lighter than the surrounding pixels. It is quite noticable. On brighter colors it isn't visible at all.

I suppose this might be the result of polarizer damage? I think the polarizer is daigonal correct? Sigh :*( I guess I'm going to have to buy yet another LCD.

check all the ffc's. are they strained or under stress? maybe they are starting to come lose. check for any rips or tears.

I can almost guarantee that you're right, it's polarizer damage.

Check out the full size pictures in the later pages (~10) of my plog (link in my signature) and see if your damage looks similar to my polarizer damage.

did you touch or move anything? don't think the polar bear would be damaged unless something hit it?

That's true... but a diagnal line just points to the polarizer. I suppose maybe heat could make a polarizer problem worse.

I tried to find your example hirudin but I didn't see it in your PLOG. To others: No... I haven't touched it or moved it from my projector. It appeared after a few weeks of use without me touching anything :*( After further inspection, it has to be the polarizer. The diagonal line is 1 pixel wide, but in some places along this line it is sort of "splotchy" in that part of a pixel is a differnt brightness than the rest of it. So, it can't be the FCCs.

There are a few things I did that were "unsafe" that could have caused this:

I used a 10% acetone solution to remove the anti-glare.

I don't have a lexan shield.

It's a refurbished LCD.

So... no one to blame but myself. I suppose this can serve as a warning to others. I didn't head the warnings about possible polarizer damage. It's tough to say which caused it.

sounds like polar damage..

but you can replace the polar too..

here is a link to a pic from Hirudin's PLOG. You can clearly see the dark diagonal marks, all of which are the result of polar bear damage

Mine are in the same direction but are different in that they only show up on dark colors. If you put up a 100% black screen, you would see a grayish diagonal line going through the middle. If you put up a 100% white screen, you wouldn't see anything.

what you describe makes sense for polar damage,, whites wont show anything,, sounds likes partial thread of polar grain missing,, they are like tens of thousands of threads, running @45 degrees..
