For the past two years I have dabbled on and off with trying to make a projector. Problem is, I'm more of a mechanical guy than an electronics one.
However, I recently scored an Infocus LP750 for FREE. Alas, the bulb is burnedout. I know I could spend $400 on a new bulb, but I'd rather buy a flat panel and overhead projector.
What I'd really liek to do is convert this sucker to use a different light source. I figure I can make a light box to bolt to the bottom and direct the light through the module bay for the UHP light.
One problem though, without a UHP light in place, the unit won't fire up.
After much research I learned that projectors sense current being drawn; they sense the 50KVolt to fire the lamp, then the steady 3-5 Volts to power the lamp. So question one is, how do I, in the simplest fashion possible, trick the unit into firing up without a bulb?
Can I short the 50KV supply wire? Perhaps by just grounding it out inside the power supply? Or do I have to make some complicated circuit with a ballast? If so, anybody want to schematic that for me?
Question 2, other light sources. Has anyone tried car headlights? Seeing as they run on 12V and are available all hours of the day at your local car parts store, I think this would be an ideal bulb. However, I'm not sure, as I can't find the lumen rating for a headlight.
In the alternative, I noted on one website that Hasbro's Zoombox uses only a 100lumen bulb. I also have noted that some of the new LED replacement bulbs for conventional home light bulbs, put out 120 to 180 lumens. Could I use that? I wouldn't mind turnign out the lights to watch a movie.
