im going to buy my 17inch lcd sometime around 3am this morning, im wondering if there are any brands or models that appear to outdo the rest, in adjustment featurs or color quality?

samsung monitors work well. relatively inexpensive, high quality, no FCC issues. Only downside is AG.. some remove sammy AG with out a problem, while other attempts end in disaster.
You can pick up an antireflective screen for around $200 such as sony XBRITE or Asus Color-Shine monitors.
