Just got my projector up and running, then saw a 76" screen on woot.com and couldn't resist. The width of the screen is the same as my current projection, but the new screen has a 16:9 ratio, so I guess I'll have to figure out how to use powerstrip. This is perfect for movies and HD content, but I would also like to be able to hook up my Xbox. I have seen adapters for running video games through the computer, and was wondering if such a scheme would work when the monitor had been scaled to 16:9.

Does anyone have experience playing video games on a 4:3 monitor running 16:9? Any suggestions?

If you're going to use xbox, I would suggest getting a simple video input card like the prolink pixelview x-capture card (~$25). You can use dscaler v4 with s-video input. The picture on your screen will be a "pillarboxed" (black bars on the left and right) 4:3 image on your 16:9 (powerstripped) screen. You can change the aspect ratio in dscaler to fill the whole screen, but everything will get stretched horizontally, so it's just a preference thing.

I ran like this for a year before going to a wuxga.

adaptec makes a USB dongle called Gamebridge TV which is a usb TV capture/tuner device that retails for $30 at Fry's electronics. i have one for watching TV but supposedly it has very low latency for use with consoles. i'm not sure how compatable it is with 3rd party apps or mediacenter though. i guess you would need to run it through a 3rd party for animorphic stretch.
