Here is a digital thermometer that I picked up at Petsmart. It was only seven dollars and is battery operated (requires no wiring).

Sorry, forgot to list the specs. It uses a 1.5v battery and is accurate to +/- 1.5 degrees F.

Looks like this would be a nice and cheap thermometer anyone could afford to leave in the projector.
