On a trade I got a LEKE Lighting electronic Ballast model LKEB-400MHD which says on it that it is for 400 High Pressure Metal Halide Lamp. I also got a bulb and socket with it but its the larger size bulbs - not the thinner ones like the T15 lamp. I did a search on here and found three people mentioned they got the same eballast. Will this one work fine? Also, are there any differences between the bulbs and performance? Does the thinner T15 bulb perform better or the larger one? I do have a reflector for the larger one that came with it. I will be building a 15" Haas design.

Thanks!

Where did you purchase this eballast ?

The Leke eballast is the manufacturer of the "old style" LL eballasts. (the "new style" are the ones manufactured by coralvue) Some of the old style lamps work pretty good. Can you specify which lamp it is ? (there maybe a name/model number on the lamp jacket itself) The T15 shape became popular when the pro reflector became available as the T15 shape (or smaller) is required in order to get the reflector close enough to the arc. There are many variables to consider when refering to "performance", and some of which is subjective... some is more quantitative, but you'd need to say what you have planned, how it will be used and the evironment it will be used (ie. light controlled or not).

I got everything on a trade so not sure where it all came from. The bulb has a stamp on the glass saying USHO and the next line says MH400 and make in Germany. Thats all it says. I don't mind buying a new bulb such as going to the T15 bulb and base. I would prefer to use this eballast though since they are not cheap.

As far as use, I just plan to build a projector using a 15" LCD in the Haas design. So not sure what else there is to know. I guess I was just seeing if anyone had input on the eballast mainly. And like I said, I'll go to the T15 if needed. Maybe I should anyways so I can design the box for the latest bulb incase I need to replace it anytime.

I was just asking about the origin as I was wondering if it was indeed a LL eballast... regardless, it should work just fine with any 400 lamp you can throw at it... probe start (M59), pulse start (M135/155) and HPS (S51).

My personal recommendation is to use the new LL65K lamp with the pro reflector on the eballast you have.

Hope this helps.

The T15 is the LL65K lamp I was referring to. I think I'll do that.
