Hello Everybody,
I haven't started my project yet, but I am wondering if can I use white LED lamps instead of metal halide lamps?. I know, this question probably is stupid, but...
Thanks

Sure can't. There are several problems: Cost per lumen is very high, the color temp is very narrow and the cri is quite small.

Do a forum search for "leds" and be sure to change to the date drop down list to "any date".

I read some where that someone had created an LED that puts out 75 lumens per watt. Still not enough to use in a projector, but over three times the output of the current record holder, which I believe is the Luxeon Star five watt LED @ 23 lumens per watt. You may not be able to use them in a projector but they make great flashlights!

LED technology is getting better and better. It's got a lot of future potential.
I saw an article on a prototype LED projector, nothing commercially practical but it clearly demonstrates the possibilites with this technology.
Also leds last longer and give off little heat.
