I did a rag soak AG removal on my 15” Westinghouse last night. I got all of the AG off the panel, but it left some glue residue behind. You can see where I stopped and started pulling, and the directions I pulled on it.
I have tried to clean up the panel by trying to re-do the rag soak method again (hoping it would soften up the residue).
Then I tried rubbing the panel with a soft rag soaked in hot water.
Next I tried regular Glass cleaner.
Then finally I tried a soft rag soaked in alcohol.
Nothing has got it clean, and I’m afraid to keep messing with it. Does anyone know how I can get my panel clean?
Thanks,
Mav

Acetone is supposed to do the trick.
Test a corner first though.

This was such a PITA for me. Had to use a combination of Goo Gone with a straight razor and rubbing it off
with just my fingers. Very labor intensive. Once I got it all off I used alcohol to get it squeaky clean.
There's probably a better way but this is what I did.

Thanks for the reply… I saw the acetone solution somewhere. I’m a little worried about using that… Wouldn’t acetone eat/damage the polarizer?
Joe:
Thanks, I might try that if nothing else works… With my luck I would end up scratching/damaging the polarizer or panel with the razor. I might give it a go if I cant get it off any other way.

Whoops!
I forgot I had removed my polarizer when I did this.

It might but several people have used acetone to clean the glue off polarizers with no ill effects. Thats why I always say test a small coerner spot first.

I wanted to add what i have experienced with the glue residue. I first thought after i removed my AG that i was done, far from it. I then noticed some weird spots on it, what i thought was glue residue. so i tried window cleaner, alchohol and acetone(not mixed together). it only made things worse. i thought i had ruined it. so i bought lens cleaning handi wipes and started caleanig it. thats when i realized the glue residue is covering the whole thing in a thin tenacious layer. i was actually trying to clean the top of the glue layer. when people said some glue residue was left over i thought they ment small spots of it. anyway the lens wipes worked with a lot of elbow grease and i used the whole box. looking at the ingredience they contain achohol, water and detergent. so that would seem like the cleaning solution to use for this with a lens cloth. Im going to try that mixture next time.

I had a layer of glue also I just re-applyed the wet towels and let it soak for a short time and then used a wet paper towel to clean it up it came off perfect.
LCD was the LG 17" L1752tx.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I put the panel back in the PJ and could not see the residue in the projection. True, I would have loved to gotten it cleaned off; but not at the risk of damaging the panel. Since it did not affect the projected image, I decided not to worry about it. If it ain’t broke; Don't fix it was my feeling on it...
So to anyone in the same boat… You might want to put it back in the PJ and test it before taking any extreme steps.
Thanks again,
Mav

My glue came off quite nicely with methylated spirits. But my strip was also chemical and was based from methetyline chloride. Be really careful and go slowly. See if there is any glue reside on your AG layer that you can experiment on. That might give you a good idea of what to use...
