Hello everyone @ LL!

I've been a member for just a month and after reading a lot of PLOGS and forums -and I really mean A LOT- I've finnaly decided wich design to follow.

Before begining I must say thanks to everyone in here... there's a lot of wonderful ideas and you can really feel the spirit of help and support from all members almost instantly after reading a couple of plogs.

I also must give credit to some of the people I'm taking ideas and designs from (of course there are many, many more):

Design:
Haas_man's http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry23353
TESCORP's http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...=11111&st=0
Samuraijack's http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10250

Wiring:
vroom has a great wiring diagram on his plog:

tescorp shows a great wiring job at his plog as well... pretty neat!

Parts:
*I've ordered standard lens kit from LL store... still hasn't cleared customs but hopefully I'll get it thursday next week.
*I'm getting LCD monitor, fans and lamp tomorrow (actually it's today, I hadn't noticed it's almost 2:00 am now)
*Hopefully tomorrow will also get the plywood from Homedepot...

I'll try to keep close to the following construction rules:
1- Discipline: at least half hour a day... but no more than two... Wife wouldn't cope with that!
2- Function over aesthetics... but safety over function... won't plug anything untl absolutelly sure I won't get hurt.
3- Neatness, specially after seeing that great plog of TESCORP
4- Results: I won't stop until I get at least the results of Samuraijack

It's been great to find this website... pretty adicting though... I'll try to keep my PLOG as updated as posible and try to be of as much help as everyone else has been before.

Couldn't find the LCD screen I was planning to use (a ViewSonic VE510s) I'll wait until next saturday to check if they've arrived to the store since these are just 145 USD... otherwise I'll get a Samsung 510N at 180 USD.

Anyway, I found the lamps and a few other items:

$64 USD - 400W Sylvania MH with base and ballast
$ 3 USD - 15 AMP switch
$12 USD - 20 AMP circuit breaker box
$ 3 USD - 3mt #12 wire
$ 3 USD - conection bar

I'm getting plywood this afternoon!

Got MDF instead of Plywood... just for initial testing, once I get good results will switch to plywodd (for the looks)

$ 15 USD - 6mm 1.22x2.44 MDF + $1 USD for cutting at HomeDepot (cutting was absolutelly necessary as a full MDF wouldn't fit in my car's trunk)

Also bougth a variable speed Jigsaw at $43 USD + $2 USD for extra blades.

I'll start assembling tomorrow...

Hi everyone,

I got my LD monitor yesterday... a ViewSonic VA503b (model number VS11248)

I was so happy as I got it at a real nice price: $170 USD... I began stripping it as soon as I got home and while I was at it my friend from work found it in the LL LCD database and ohmy.gif It's reported to have FFC issues...

This is what I got:

I feel so tupid not to have checked the DB prior to buying it... but... has anybody tried extending or somehow using something simmilar?
TESCORP
I'm sure there are some extensions available in the LL store. measure the FFC so you can match it to one of the extensions. I have used an extension sucessfully on one of the builds I did for member el-nino. there should be a pic of the sled too somewhere in my thread. Good luck with your build, I'm glad I could be an inspiration!!

Thanks for your reply Tescorp... but I gave it a second thought and decided to buy a proven monitor and try to sell the VA503b to someone whose idea of buying a monitor is to strip it down...

I've got a 15" LG flatron L1550 at $180 USD and as stated in the forums had no trouble stripping it down...

This is how it looks now:
