I just upgraded my comcast box for my Sony 57" WS to a HDTV box and used the RGB cables they provided. The comcast box has an HDMI output and my tv has a DVI-D on the back and can get a cable to connect the two together. Will this be much difference on my tv?

The cable I found at http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/index.htm

Thanks!

Btw, I'm getting ready to build my own projector this month and will be using a Magnavox 15" HDTV and will get another HD comcast box for it.

The main difference is that component (RGB) is analog while DVI/HDMI is digital. if you watch alot of HD service from comcast you may want to upgrade your cable to be digital to digital but if you're not using a high def source i don't think you'll notice much difference from component to HDMI.

also what is the native res of your 57"? and what type is (RPTV, Plasma, LCD, etc..) I have a 48" JVC RPTV with a native res of 720p i can't tell the difference between dvds on either cable type.

Its a RPT. I don't think I can get much better than what it is now. We were talking about going to LCD eventually cause the colors just jump out so much but now the colors do that. I'll watch some HD channels and the others are just digital but all the channels look much better anyways. That tv is in our family room and I'm going to put a projector tv I build in my bonus room upstairs. Picking up the LCD tv to strip for that on Friday.

the main reason i asked what type is RPTVs usually have a lower native res then LCDs. almost all will say they work with 1080i or 1080p but its usually scaled not native. how was your old box connected? going from rca to component is a big jump. its almost triple the bandwidth. instead of one rca wire for video (the yellow one) you now have three wire for video. i don't remember each ones role but i know it breaks the single in to three parts and can deliver a better picture then s-video or rca any day

btw, good luck on your build! i hope you keep a plog so we can read about it!
