OK I have fallen into the black Hole of DIY Projectors. After reading the forum/researching for a month, I've decided to start getting the part list going.

Parts In Hand:
-------------------------------------
Samsung 740n (newegg)
18" Triplet (ebay)
-------------------------------------
Running Project Total: $285.82
09/06/2006
-------------------------------------

I want to go ahead and do a 17 first, but I am really interested in the WUXGA pannel later. Lets see how this one goes first.

I'd like to send a great general thanks to all the members of this forum, this is by far one of the most helpfull online communites i've ever seen. Even with a constant flow of Newbies such as myself, people still kindly say "search the archive first", as opposed to "O M G F&ING N00B".

There will surely be a few questions here and there from me, I've just been considering following another members setup. I really LOVE Christmas GT's Result, and a few other members that Have done the "IN Wall" setup.

******I could use some suggestions for my setup though.

******Light | Ballast??
******Any Real Good Focus setups for this long of a distance?

I have the focal calculator and other members to see which Fresnels I'll need.

I want to shoot for 14 feet. I've seen warmer color projectors, and I think I want to stay away from that.

Well Ill keep everyone updated.

willacuz,

I've got almost the same set up. http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13983

The bulb I have is just the regular 4000k in those pictures and they came out a darker than what they actually look like. After switching to the 6500k I don't think I'll go back. The eballast is by far the easiest way to go. I am no electrician but using the eballast along with the electrical diagrams posted was pretty simple. If I can help just let me know.

Just be aware that although the 18" will show the entire 17" lcd the corner will be slightly darker. If you were to use it in 16:9 ratio it should be perfect. If you want the entire screen to show at its best you might want to think about the pro lense.. ChristmasGT had similar issues with this and I ended up with the same ones as well. With a 15" the 18" triplet will work fine at 4:3.

Good luck with your build though.

My first Triplet Came in with FUNGUS on the lens.

Just so people who search for "CLOUDY, 18inch TRIPLET"

It looked like my lens had a film on it, as if it were WAX or soap. But it wasn't smudgeable, or even removable. It was literally etched into the glass. I took it down to a local camera shop, they took a look. Tried solution and cloth, then declared it fungus after a closer look.

So there you go.

Second Triplet has been shipped and is waiting on my doorstep. Its a replacement Triplet at no additional cost.

After I check that one out, I will pick up the ballast/bulb combo.

wakka wakka wakka christmasGT shows up to encourage the thread going!

I aggree w/ dark, The pro lense is absolutely gorgous. I also regret not using a widescreen LCD with componant inputs so that I wouldn't have to use that wretched N6.
