I have been reading around the forums for a little while now and have decided to build my own projector. So I have a question regarding the design of my projector.

This is kind of how I would like to set it up:

I want to use one of the kits available here. I think the issue that I will have is called keystoning, since I don't want to project the image straight out but at an angle.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

As your light has to travel twice as far to reach the left side of your screen as compared to the right side, I think you will have some serious lighting issues - dark on the left side and bright on the right. Getting anything close to in focus may be nigh impossible as well.

Why do you need that exteme of an angle? Perhaps rearranging the room or ceiling mount the projector? It really is best if you can keep the pj as close to perpendicular to the screen as possible. I think mine is offset by 10º or so on the vertical, but placed on center horizontally.

I believe recommended keystone limit is 15 degrees? If your drawing is even roughly to scale you're exceeding that limit.

Also, again if your drawing is to scale, your throw is really short compared to what you want to project in terms of screen size.

Can you give more details with measurements so folks can better grasp precisely what you wish to do?

Edit: What R said too. smile.gif

Its to be part of a three piece coffee table...I could try to redesign it so that the projector is in the middle.

I am not sure as to exact measurements so far, just trying to get an idea of what I can and can not do.

Another question I have is, whats the min throw I can use and still have a large screen? I think i saw a calculator for this?

ROUGHLY you can get a pic as big as you are far away from the screen. 10 feet away = 10 foot image.

The calculator is here along with other useful stuff. smile.gif

Edit: Avoid as much complexity as possible (like keystoning) and your build will be easier.

But it's okay to keystone too. Just have to formulate yer plan and run with it. cool.gif
