I am gathering my parts for a projector. So far I got a 22" triplet, 630 and 220 mm fresnels. I cant quite decide if I should go 15" or 17" LCD.

In the beginning I desinged the box for a 17" and thus the 630 lens. But now when it came to actually buying the LCD, I seem have a better chance of finding a decent cheap second hand 15" than a 17".

I wont be watching high definition any time soon. We dont have HD broadcast where I live, and HD DVDs god knows when they'll be avialable.

Basically I'll be watching dvd or divx backups of my dvds ...

In this situation is there any advantage of using 17" LCD over a 15" one ?

If I go 15" I'll cut the lenses to 17" size incase if I need to go 17 in the future

Let me knw what you think. Thanks

If you want HD (720p) get the 17", if you don't care get a 15". Focus on the 15" will be better, and the 17"s corners might be darker/blurry, but I'm not sure of this because I've never seen a projector with a 22" opaque lens.

Personally I would rather have the 17". But it all depends on what your needs are. smile.gif

Good luck.

My opinions the same across the board when it comes to things you plug in. Get as much or as good as you can afford.

JMHO, But I would go with the 17".

Even with regular DVD's you can upscale them with your PC or other devices to raise the resolution to
HD with a 17" monitor. With a 15" monitor you are limited to the 1024x768.

The screendoor on a 17" will be better on a 17 vs a 15 as well.

I was thinking of doing a 17, but the prices of the pro lens kit scared me off. Now that it is done, I am kinda kicking myself that I didn't just spend the extra.

Since you already have the lenses, why limit yourself? In the overall price, the difference between a 17" monitor and a 15" monitor is pretty minor.

For an idea of what can be done with a 17" monitor and some upscaling, check this out:

I use a 22" triplet and a 17" wide screen. I love it.
