I have easy access to many ohp parts, but not an entire ohp. I want to use an ohp lamp with psone lcd, seems like common ones are 50w and 82w, but im not entirely sure how to do this. Can some one 'shed some light' on my situation?

I already have the psone gear all ready to go, stripped, even removed ag. I was going to go with dehqi metal halide but apparently dpc went under and i dont feel like ordering lamp holders and wrong spectrum lamp from unknown dealers. Just looking for a cheap lil set up.

When it comes to wiring I think all you're really going to want from an OHP is the bulb electronics, which is probably going to be in pretty much one piece. Find an OHP that uses a good bulb, take it's electronics, and buy a bulb for it.

Here is the wiring diagram for the OHP I use maybe it will help

i guess i didnt state it already but im very inexperienced in electronic schematics. Can you dumb it down for me and let me know what i need? I guess i can call upon some elec engineer friends to help me.

I don't know if this simplifies it , but here is a OHP lamp that JoeChevy used in a small projector, as you can see the wiring is very simple . The thermal switch pictured keeps the lamp from overheating and is wired inline

you would also need the diode (rectiifer). This reduces the line voltage of 120VAC to the required 82V to operate the projection lamp

You can find them both on the schematic

thanks for the help. i realized ive been sitting on the 250w ice cap eballast that i really should put to use. I opted not to go hqi de cause dpc died off and they were the ones somewhat supporting that technology in video projection. I did however forget i could go with the mogul base version of metal halides as well. doh! Found a nice place to order a 250w lamp and base, need fresnels now. when i get everything ill plog it up.

Well is you still decide to go with the ohp route check out 250watt 120volt bulb 16,000 lumens. They have ohp bulbs that run on a regular 120volt current they should be easy enough for you to find.

I was looking at those and it seems like the higher the voltage the less the bulb life is.

Where do I get this 'diode'? I searched google and that's no good because I'm not sure what I'm looking for but I found this forum with someone making a PJ too asking these eletrical gurus about the diode too and they shot him down over and over saying that what he wanted wouldn't work: http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthre...de+calculations

Then at the end of the thread there was a link to this: http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/m2407.html which seems promising because it's got a mirror, the bulb (I assume it's prewired) and a condensor lens that be of great use. Not to mention all the other tasty stuff they have: http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/category/...cslenses_1.html

Has anyone ever been there? And what's this diode business?

For my 7" portable PJ I was going to use http://www.lightbulbdepot.com/product.asp?...amp;prod=01115A and http://www.bulbman.com/index.php?main_page...oducts_id=12318 but if I need a diode/have to do some crazy math or insane wiring maybe I'll just opt for a 120v like DarkMeat suggests.

Here is a link for diodes for different OHPs.

Excellent, thanks! But how do I know which one I need - they all have similar descriptions. Also, my lamp is 86v not 82, is that okay?

You can run 86V in 82V, it usually adds life but lessens the brightness slightly.

ie. ENX vs ENX/5, or ENH vs ENH/5.
