I'm just about ready to begin my family room ht.

I considered a commercial for the theater but since I've seen numerous examples of diy's being built for under $400 (mydiazclan's example comes to mind) I think it would be cool if I tried my hand at a diy this time around.

Here is the proposed room, my family room. I'm considering a 60"x80" screen. The coffee table will have wheels eventually so I can move it but ideally I'd like the projector carted to just behind the table where it sits currently, which would put the lens to screen at about 9.5' distance.

This is the lcd display. I searched for this model on the site but I couldn't find it anywhere so i can't tell if its compatible or not. There is also a problem with the lcd in that it wil display the image but then the screen blacks out. I'm hoping its a dead backlight but I guess the only way to find out is to open. and shine a light from behind. If anyone has had experience with this unit I'd appreciate any input on it. It is a Planar 15" lcd PPA4512U. There is also a plug which I don't know what its for. It doesn't seem to fit a 1/8" or rca jack so I don't know if its audio or video. The lcd was free, btw.

As to enclosure, I'm probably going with the standard box but I'd like to make it more decor-friendly. I saw this at Pier 1 and thought it might work. I haven't decided yet whether to buy pre-built like a slusher/tescorp or make my own. I'm rather unsure of my skills in the focus construction section so I'm leaning toward pre-built.

and the matching stand (I'll have to make one modifed to hold the case)

Connections to my existing audio system will probably be an unused DVDO 480p PureProgessive converter.

Any recommendations will be great for this plog. Thanks

What are the dimensions on that Pier 1 chest?

P.S. You can't go wrong with Tescorp
