How dark is your room?
In theory you could cover a full size movie theater screen with the projection from a DIY projector, but it would be awfully dim. In complete blackness it would most likely be watchable though.
Most people aim for the 120" range. Some people have 150"+ projections and are happy with them.
Tweaking and perfecting make a lot of difference.
