Since I seemed to have killed my 17" wide screen LCD controller, I have been told that it would make more since to get a new LCD. The LCD was 16:9 1280 x 768. So if I get a 4:3 lcd now that is 1280 x 1024 and I send a 16:9 720p signal to it. Will the picture remain 16:9 and have black bars? I originally wanted to have a wide screen pj since I would use it for mostly HD content but I ruined my first screen and I can get a 4:3 screen for less money. Or should I spend the extra money and get a wide screen LCD again?

What is the widescreen LCD that you have now ?

Yes, likely getting a new LCD will be cheaper in the long run.

If it's just a basic 17" LCD monitor, then no, the picture would likely not keep the correct aspect ratio (with black bars), but would be scaled to fill the entire screen... effectively "stretching" your image. You would need to find an LCD TV (or LCD video monitor) capable of supporting HD resolutions (whichever you required; 720p and/or 1080i). You can get around this by using an external scaler with a "regular" 17" LCD in order to have your signal displayed properly.

sorry to hear about your controller problems,

I have a LCM-17w7 here is the link to the website https://www.westinghousedigital.com/pc-29-3...cd-monitor.aspx

I got it refurbished and it was cheap, but I have seen normal 17" monitors go for 90 dollars so I was hoping I could use one of them also I have a vidgi VD-z3. So I guess I should buy another 17" wide screen.

Oh and I think it was only the power board that got screwed up so does anyone know where to get Westinghouse parts?

Had you sucessfully tested this LCD with a 720p source ? Did it maintain a slight letterbox, or stretch it to fit the 1280x768 ?

You could always check the trading post area, although I don't recall having seen many people using this LCD... always worth a shot ?? ... perhaps even a power supply from a different westinghouse LCD... you'd need to provide details in order to try and match it up. Can you post a picture ?

cheers,

were all the boards grounded ? for some manufacturers, if the circuitboards are not grounded properly, they will not work.

you may want to put a WTB (wanted to buy) in the trading post area with your information... someone may have just what your looking for...

good luck.
