So I was thinking...

On a split design the LCD is between th efresnel lenses. If I use an unsplited design this will put two layers of plastic between the light bulb and the lcd. Is this enough to skip the Lexan layer?

PS> Can anybody point me to ablog with a nice description of how to attach the triplet with the shower drain method?

I think that will definately help keep the LCD cooler, but the fresnels are also suseptable to the heat (I'm not sure to what extent though).

The lexan is used for blocking heat and also sheilding the LCD from harmfull UV rays. I would definitely use it for a split design as the fresnels should not be subjected to great temp differences. lack of lexan would cause the collimating fresnel to get much hotter and probably warp.

Thanks Guys!

unplit setup gives noticeably better picture quality. the only pro of a split setup is the abaility to implement simple keystoning by tilting the fresnel in front of the LCD. This lets you position the projector off center from the screen and still get a square image. If you can position your projector in the center of your screen, definitely go with an unsplit design.
