Full Version: Professa's "while I Wait On My Ht Projector..."

As I wait on my Home Theater Projector to finish up (waiting for parts and such), I got the idea that I should use the extra parts I have for a small projector for my room. I have a Standard LL Lens and 15" Fresnel Kit. I'm looking at this LCD as my LCD because I didn't want some thing with a low res and also needed a bigger screen to allow for a decent sized image. I also hope to use a OHP lamp (250W, 120V ENH Lamps) for the bulb; I would love the near instant start up.

I'm trying to keep this build below $200:

Standard Lens - $10
15" Fresnels - $30
FS Mirror - $?
Nview Spectra C - $47
ENH Lamp - $6
_________________
Current Total - $93

I'm not sure what I want to use for an enclosure but I am definitely considering a PC case (specifically an Mini-ATX form because they have the ideal dimensions for my build). I figure I can cut down the 15" fresnels to size (unless I can get a 220/220 setup) and use either a single or double fold for the design. I may be getting that LCD very soon and I'll see how that works out.

Well, I was using a 360w bulb until I realized the FXL lamp was 410w 82v
and fit in the same fixture as the 360w MR16 bulbs. You should be able to
get the FS mirror and the socket for the bulb just by gutting an OHP for the
parts. If you have a surplus store around, ask them... if you don't know of
any, call a local middle/high school and talk to the person who does supply.

If none of the OHPs you find have an FS mirror, just froogle Front Surface
Mirror... you'll find lots of places that sell them for not very much money.

With the OHP, just make sure that you are very carefully focused on the
bulb, because you don't want to lose what lumens you get (12,000 for 400w
OHP vs 35,000 for the same wattage MH). smile.gif

I hope to possibly use a condensor if it works well if the reflectors alreay used with the bulb. Otherwise I've seen 600W halogens that may work OK but that would be HOT!!! Possibly looking at a Nview LCD if I can get my hands on one.

I may be able to get a bulb from school, but that would mean I would have to stop by there before my senior years starts wacko.gif .

Hey Prof,

You should maybe consider the 250w ENX OHP bulb. They run on 120v, and there easier to cool then the 360w 82v that require a diode or resistor.

Just a suggestion smile.gif

I'm currently talking with DarkMeat and he is being more than helpful for getting this project into a more specific form. I think I may go with the ENH bulbs that I can get a $3 discount if I buy 6 or more, or see what anyone else has. I was also thinking a condensor so the less heat the better.

So Yoshu, what would be a creative idea or possibly a recommendation for an enclosure? I was looking at possibly a Mini-ATX PC case that would be perfect size for it. DarkMeat is helping with the LCD, possibly a Spectra C, but wanted to keep it around 8", 10.4" if I can get a hold of a boxlight. Also, do you have anything for sale that would work well with my projector? I already have the lens and fresnels, but what ever you got or need to get rid of, I may be willing to buy.

What size condensor would I be looking at with a 220/330 setup? I know ArizonaVideo would gladly help me out here if he had any he didn't melt during his high wattage testing ohmy.gif

I won this LCD Nview Spectra C. I wanted to find a 800x600 or 1024x768 (boxlight maybe), but this will do for now.

Just bought a lot of 10 ENH bulbs for $6 a piece. Hopefully I don't have to wait too long for them after my panel gets in.

I'm not sure what the ENH bulbs are rated, but if they are in the same ballpark as the FXL vonneuton mentioned, be careful.

I was using the FXL 410W until it fried my Samsung 515N after only a few hours in the projector. For the sake of your LCD, thoroughly insulate it from as much heat as possible.

Otherwise, good luck!

Yeah... it's definitely a hot bulb. smile.gif Though, as long as you have most of the heat
walled off with some tempered glass and have adequate cooling, it's going to be no
worse than these guys trying to run 400w overdriven or 1000w MH systems. smile.gif

I've run mine for 5 hours at a time now... it's fine.

The ENH are 250W, 120V, 175 hours. They should work great with a condensor as me and DarkMeat are working together on testing these (though he will be gone for a good two weeks he mentioned).

As for cooling, I'm really going to setup up and design some custom made heat sinks and rig a PC style cooling system.
Professa Oak
I've decide if this turns out how I predict, I may do custom builds for others. I'm currently looking into places that I can get a consistent supply from for the different parts. I am still looking for a good LCD to use because I'm not sure if most people would want a PSone LCD. I'm looking at PC cases for an enclosure because I think they will be the easiest to work with and should maintain a solid structure. I think I found a source fir page magnifiers with a 300mm FL. I'm probably going to get those as well as find a condensor for that setup.

My Nview Spectra C and Nview MediaPro got in yesterday and I must say the picture looks awesome as far a I can tell. I still need to figure out how to run VGA to it put composite works fine, though the MediaPro needs an RCA to BNC adapter. I should be able to get pics tomorrow when I don't have to work. I am also getting some stuff from Vonneuton for my projector so I can start up one of my bulbs.
