Remember that old song?

Well i asked myself that just a month or two ago, where do old copiers go when they die, and the answer led me to a huge source for Stepper Motors of all sizes. Now these arnt the biggest ones in the world, but i just thought i might mention it.

If you just getting into the CNC world and wanna get some motors and get the machine going, you might consider trying to contact a large copy machine leasing company. Its not hard to find one of those companies with 15 years worth the old copiers sitting up in rooms some place being "parted out" just like billy joe does with every old car he comes across thats in his yard.

I called my local Copier company and told them what iw as doing and they told me that i could come get all i wanted. They sent a technitian with me, handed me a screwdriver, and the Tech told me where the biggest motors were and then left. It was like a see of copiers, and i crawled all over them, and got a few motors, quite a few, enough to tinker, and enough to build with.

Just thought i'de mention it.

Unfortunatly i don't have much info on the motors. They are custom builds for each company. They seem to treat the motor specs like trade secrets. I called the manufacturer, and i was told that they couldnt give me the info.

If size matters, then, i can tell you they are about the size of the motors i have been seeing others use. If i remember, i'll post some pictures.

Maybe someone else can help me ID them.

And, I didnt get dirty at all. They had a room of about 50 copiers. I knew where the motors were, and i got right to them.
