Why not order Triple Pass Blackout cloth? It is inexpensive and proven to be a fairly decent screen material.

Here is a place I have ordered from. Order 2 yards at 5.95 each and you will have a screen 54" x 72", plus shipping and it will be under $20 total. They ship same day you order.

That is a decent price for 54" wide BO cloth. It can be found cheaper... at one time joanne fabrics had it for about $2.50/yd...

Keep in mind you'll want some inches for "workability" in actually stretching in over a frame. For 54" wide material I would take 6" for working, so that only leaves 48" for the actual screen size (of course this number will vary depending on a persons skills). With 48" viewable width, a 4:3 screen would be 80" (48x64), and a 16:9 screen would be ~98" (~48x85").

cheers,

There was a post awhile back where a member said a less than $10 plastic shower curtain from WallyWorld worked great. They got the wrinkles out by steaming or something like that? Or maybe stretching and a blow-dryer? Just thought I'd throw that in. When I hear dorm room I think back and figure "liquid proof" is good!!! laugh.gif

i dont want blackout cloth as it will end up getting trashed by the end of the year, just something cheap nice and temporairy

Why dont you just paint the wall white? Thats pretty cheap... laugh.gif

Gallon of paint. Case of beer. A few buddies. You'll have the whole room white in no time!!! smile.gif

Of course a white sheet will give you a decent image. The lower priced ones have a low thread count which allows some light to pass through the sheet. The image is not as sharp but, very watchable. Paying a little bit more for a higher thread count sheet will give you a sharper image but, still inexpensive and "liquid proof" or at least washable. The thread count is stated on the front of the sheet package, even the cheaper ones. I don't know about shower curtains, I have never used one.

What about a piece of that parkland plastic's polywall ?? I think you can get it at home depot or lowes pretty cheap and you can have a food fight, spill beer, vomit, etc... all over it and if need be, just wash it... nothing could be simpler... ??

How many members do you suppose simply despise us for doing this in threads? tongue.gif

I think GS should be formally reprimanded for using the term "vomit" <ugh> in a post. laugh.gif

Its all in good fun. I have only ever exchanged nasty words with one member. This place still holds the bar for politeness and decency to each other.
I believe the politically correct term is "Spontaneously, unwillingly expelled stomach contents"...

We don't have showers in West Virginia. Usually, the local creek is good enough for a quick bath when the water gets high enough, once a month. Hmmm, I wonder if a confederate flag would make a good PJ screen.

Put a "space blanket" mylar sheet behind it to reflect back the light that gets throught the sheet. Like this one on EBay EMERGENCY/SURVIVAL/THERMAL/ SPACE BLANKET/MYLAR SOLAR . You can probably find one at your nearest sports equipment store. It only costs a couple of dollars.

If you want a decent screen cheap, you'll be hard pressed to find one better than a 4'x8' sheet of parkland's polywall for $15. smile.gif It's easy too... cut it to size, hang or lean against wall, done.

... yes, and it's tequilla-proof too... whether is coming out the bottle, or other orfices... tongue.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif

good luck,

Be aware. Parkland has changed their manufacturing process on the Polywall and the new stuff is not recommended for screens. However just go to Lowes and HD and check. Alot of them still have the old stuff in stock. I am not sure how you can tell the different. For more information check the DIY Screen forum at avsforum.com

If you live West of the Rockies I would get the Doable board. It makes an awesome screen. The only problem is Home Depots East of the Rockies don't carry them. This can also be found at the DIY Screen forum.

I got 3 yards of the $3.00 blackout cloth for $9.00, and just taped everything to the wall using sturdy packaging tape. You won't get a better screen for that price.
