Well since my projector is pretty much done (besides some minor cleaning and adjusting), I have started working on my HT. It's been coming along really well and decided to start a HTPlog.

I will post some pics tonight.

It's been two weeks since that post, but I finally got the pics biggrin.gif

I finally painted my projector, adjusted it, and mounted the front LCD pannel controls. I also finished 90% of the ceiling w/potlights, and added a dedicated switch for the projector.

A close up shot of the lense & control pannel

The switch on the right controls the projector

A view from behind the wall

The projector on with lights at about 60% brightness

you can see the projector lense on the right

Just concrete right now tongue.gif. I still have to install the carpet. I am thinking of going with either a brown, blue, or grey cut pile carpet.

BTW, I really like how your HT is shaping up foamcows.

thanks, I am trying to figure out what to put on the floor of mine as well.

Let me know if you find any deals.

I have 2 cats and a dog, so I will probably not get carpet, it would just be full of hairballs, plus the entire rest of the house is hardwood and I like how easy it is to clean.

Have you decided to paint the entire wall for the screen or just an area?

Ya I'm lucky that I don't have any pets. A dark carpet would be very bad news with a pet, especailly one with light fur.

About the screen: I just ordered the Black Flame mix. I am planning to paint the wall from the ceiling to the floor, and a little more then needed on the sides. I will then make a wooden boarder around the screen (4:3). Since I will be really tight for space, I will mount the front center speaker in the center of the top boarder and run the wires through the ceiling.

That's a pretty nice setup.

The screen looks enormous biggrin.gif , how close is the seating area?? Do people leave after a showing looking like blink.gif ?

The screen is about 120" widescreen. The seating is just outside of the "screendoor effect" range laugh.gif, about 8 feet.

The first thing people say when they see it is. "you made this!" followed by "it's so clear!", followed by "I guess I'll be coming over more offten!"... dry.gif tongue.gif

Your set up looks great! biggrin.gif I've mounted my projector inside my wall as well and got some BF on order.

Looks like you've got total controlled lighting conditions with your set up so your screen should turn out good.

What are you going to use as a substrate?

I'm not totally sure yet. I'm thinking of either using an 3mm acrylic mirror, or just painting the base coat a semigloss white. I'm just worried that I may cause a lot of bumps by painting both the base and top coat with a roller.

I just ordered a vdigi for my Xbox (72.90 USD), so in a week or two I will post some screens.

Steve TO,

I seem to remember someone selling their 740N in the trading post because it wasn't compatible with this product. I hope it works for you cuz I want one too! biggrin.gif Let me know, I've got a PS2 and I'm dyin to play some Gran Turismo 4.

I hope so too... I don't remember ever reading that. Do you remember what the compatibility issue was?
Also I got the Enhanced VD-Z3, I know there have been older versions before it, so hopefully this new version works fine. ph34r.gif

I have the enhanced VD-Z3. I've had it for about 9 months and it works good with the xbox 360 hooked to projector.

Hey Steve,

If you haven't already seen my slog, the results are in. You must use a smooth surface for this paint.
Also, if I can help answer any questions you have let me know.

Thanks, I have been following your slog, and your findings are very useful to me. Right now I am using a rolled white wall, and know that if I just roll the mud overtop I will get undesirable results. I still am not sure what to use as a smooth base for the screen tough. I don't want to spend a lot of $ right now.

Really nice job. I like the lights built into the wall next to your pj. I like my pj hidden too. Somehow it just adds to the whole movie experience instead of hanging from the ceiling. looking forward to some more pics.

Hey Steve TO,

Are you using an wire extension for your monitor control settings(buttons on bezel) If so, where'd you get it?

Well I have been using the vdigi for a few weeks now and can confirm that it does indeed work with the 740N.

Although I would not recomend getting it if it will just be used for the origonal xbox. IMO the games that run in HD look very aliased, and I almost prefer the anti-aliased "look" of the SD, since Xbox doesn't support anti-aliasing with HD resolutions.

No wire extention, I just carved out the area where my control pannel sits at the bottom of the front of the projector. I'll try to post some pics to give you a better idea of what I mean soon.
