As you can see, I'm attempting 8020 build as inspired by ArchibaldTuttle. So far I'm using the following components:

15.4 Sharp WUXGA LCD and controller from Minoten cool.gif
400w Vue Ballast
LL65K T15 Lamp
Pro Lens Kit

I used 6"x6" aluminum angle 3/8" thick sitting on a linear slide I found on ebay. Do not try this without a drill press! This is going to be a very heavy build (over 100 lbs).

Here's the LCD controller. I drilled holes on a 5.25" Lian Li Black Bay Cover since it's one of the few bay covers with a thin wall to accommodate the controller buttons.

The goal is to have 5 drive bays for the fan/temp/LCD controller. The bottom bay is a drawer to keep my remote and spare parts.

nice.
and by "nice" i mean, "hot and sexy" for something so "heavy"

its gonna cost you alot to ship that to my house.

Upper front cover installed with handles to protect the lens. I'm not sure if I'm going to use stainless or black oxide screws.

OOooohhhh man that thing is cool!

Do you have the hookup on 8020 parts? Or are you just willing to shell out the money? The extrusions themselves aren't so bad, it's the brackets that kill ya! Did you have them custom anodized or something, or does 8020 sell them black like that? I've got some extrusions myself, but they're sitting in my living room ATM...

I like your giant aluminum angle triplet mount! good idea! I had been looking at linear bearings on eBay for a while now, but I could never really come up with a good way of actually connecting them to the triplet. What you have is sure to be a nice sturdy 90º angle, good thinkin'!

I'd say go with the SS screws...

Most of the framing came from ThorLabs, which stock anodized extrusions. Yeah, I paid big bucks but it gave me lots of flexibility when making adjustments. I also bought 8020 parts from AirInc and 8020 Inc Garage Sale on ebay. I'm leaning towards ss screws also. Thanks....

EGAD! Well, I have no cad skills whatsoever so I hope this will suffice:

The LCD/fresnel mounts are designed to be height adjustible. So is the front chamber space where the ballast ,PSU, and control panels will be housed.

Can you tell me what is the brand of LL65K T15 Lamp?
Have you bought the LCD+controler to Minoten? I thought that Minoten don't sold since long time ago. Sorry if I have made a mistake.

Thank you.

The brand of lamp came from the LumenLab store: https://secure.lumenlab.com/shop/product.php?id=57
I don't remember seeing any name on the box.

Also, I was part of the last Minoten group buy several months ago.

The backside which holds the LCD controller/input connectors and two input fans/filters. The audio plugs are additions and does not come with the LCD controller. The board orientation was chosen to avoid cutting and lengthening the 30 wires (to LCD) or attaching a FFC extension.

LL's power entry module with a 5 amp circuit breaker. Probably not a good idea to have it so close to the audio inputs but it will suffice 'til the next project.

Nice looking plug panel! Did you happen to get any use out of my G2a And Plugs Layout (v. 1.1) PDF by chance? (If you did that would make me feel special and junk...)

Also, what did you do with the 1/8 inch mini-stereo plugs (between the power plug and the composite video)? Did you desolder them or something?
FatScreen
Well your shipping methods are very slow, i still haven't recieved that beast!!!

Well if you arent going to ship it to me at your cost, you could at least put up some results photos showing your display! biggrin.gif

Alas, this is the 1st time I've heard about your G2a template, and I now wish I found out sooner to saved some time. I probably wasted about a day just cutting out a template on cardboard. Sorry to disappoint you, Hirudin. Unfortunately, my controller did not come with stereo plugs...in fact the plug were never soldiered on my board so I assumed the audio part on the board was not enabled eventhough I did not see any other IC chips missing on the board.

VERY nice approach to your build. I love the linear slide for the lense. Nothing better than a well thought design, executed with master fabrication skills. Can't wait to see it done! BTW did you decide order a VDIGI yet?

thanks man,

I'm planning to get a VDIGI in another month or two or three. I was just hesitant because it's only available through a very few outlets. But the reviews have been very positive on the device. BTW, you're right about BFP.

You may also want to consider the X2VGA-2, the thing is AWESOME. I just received one recently and the image quality boost over the N6 is unbelievable. smile.gif

The VDIGI works very well, I have used it on my (now broken) 1280x800 synaps and on my 1600x1200 viewsonic. I would recommend it.

I was wondering, since I need a new LCD now and want to remove the AG... Did you/will you remove the AG on your WUXGA?

Nope, since this is my 1st attempt, I wanted just to get things going. Besides, WUXGA panels are not easy to find, in case of a screw-up.

Very nice!! looks real good.. I'd love to see some detail shots of the inside from every angle.. also close ups of the control panel.. it looks real nice!!

are you using an eliptical and a parabolic reflector?

Great job.. i plan on using 8020 on my next build..
arctan
Success, but my photography skills does not do justice the pics below. I guess I need a few lessons.
Also, please excuse the door and hinges in the photos, for I don't have a white wall big enough to show a bigger and brighter image. In fact the wall and door is painted a light grey and 13 ft was the max distance (wall to wall) because I live in tight quarters.

24" aluminum Parabolic dome cut in half, but I'm not happy with the current results (but my friends and family are). I probably just need to do some tweaking.

Very nice, just another reason to finish mine, some close up shots of the PJ would be great indeed, ..and I love how you integrated the computer bits in the front smile.gif , was planning in doing something like thay myself, the wide screen pics look cool too

So you are using a Parabolic as an offset reflector? Is it a 330mm rear fresnel or 220? Is this the same as a side loaded parabolic antenna? Maybe a simple line drawing?

How is the white screen light pattern? I would think that the side fired reflector would be fairly touchy to adjust.

Great job. What does the shop look like?

Yeah, it's very touchy. I'm not happy with it but I believe the dome itself has some tolerance flaws. But I can live with the current setup. BTW, no rear fresnel because the light from the parabolic dome is parallel hitting the Field fresnel.

Wow, that is sweet. VERY creative using the parabolic reflector. Do you feel like you have that reflector polished up to as reflective a finish as you want? I ran across this tutorial I want to try.
