I met with the Onwer/President of Techbench today, He just got back from Korea with his meeting with Samsung.
He was told that Dell and IBM and a few others have been buying and making large contract deals with Samsung and others to try to obtain the lcd's for the demand. This in turn has shortened the LCD availability to the rest of the community. and If you have noticed the prices have been going up partly due to this.
He has looked at the Lumenlab site and is interested in what we do with the LCD's, infact he has an employee of his that has done the same thing, not sure if they are a member here or not, in talking to them they are going to call me on their next large shipment and see what they can do about reserving lcd's for us, the tentive price will be 250.00 USD (269.99 right not on thier ebay site), but when they run out they actually take the ebay listing down until they achieve more in stock, I had mentioned to them that Lumenlab will probably have about 100 members a month which would be interested in possibly buying these.
Other pricing would be about:
17" = 350.00 USD
19" = 460.00 USD
Hopefully we can have a place here where it can be ordered and we can reserve the LCD Kit.
Here is a link to what the Kit Contains.

Nice long cables I see. What are the specs on this monitor? Contrast ratio, response time etc.?
Also, does it come with instructions on how to hook everything up, or is it pretty much a no brainer - as in 'this cable can only plug into this port' kind of thing?

They are 300:1 ratio
25ms response time
1024x768 resolution
TV tuner + s-video + composite + RGB

It is a good price, especially when you consider it is an all in one solution - but I think I want as high a contrast ratio as possible like 500:1 range. Can anyone post a comparison betwen a 300:1 panel and a 450+:1 panel from a pj?

Hmmmmm. Since these have been snarfed up by Dell and IBM, I am wondering if we couldnt find out which monitors these made it into and then aquire one of them for stripping purposes. I am noticing a lot of Dell LCD's on Ebay...Maybe one of these contains one of these smasung LCD's? Just a thought.
Im kind of a cheap so and so...

Ooops. That would be a SAMSUNG lcd. I checked the prices out on Ebay and few other places and it still looks like the kit would be a better deal.

I will likely be purchasing one of these fairly soon. One question is, will it be worth the wait to see if they become available from the Lumenlab store? Or, should I just buy one off of Ebay right now?
My second, and most important, question is, do the standard box plans work with this monitor or do they need adjusting?
I don't have any equipment yet (lenses, balast, ect.) but I'd like to at least get started on the box today or tomorrow.

Yes as far as i know it works just fine in the Projector and is diy friendly.

Man, this is a great price... have to wonder about the contrast. I'm seeing 450:1 now I think. Doesn't seem like it would be that big of a difference.

I wonder how many of these kits that this place has left?
This is a good price for a all-in-one solution, but a shipping charge of $29.00 is fairly pricey with a required $5.00 shipping insurance charge. This thing should be packed extremely well for that price. Overall, I do like that price, even with shipping included.
Just a quick question for this kit. Is there a quick way to test the screen for defects/DOA without fully plugging in everything together?

I just ordered one and will let everyone know how it turns out. I too would like to know if there is a quick way to test it when it gets here so I can be sure it is ok!!

Make sure everything is spread out and nothing is touching (don't ask how I know). And you can test the monitor kit by connecting it to your computer with the provided VGA cable.

I, too, bought one of these. Got it a week ago. Will be testing it this weekend and will let you know it well it turns out. Glad it got so much attention, though, because I ordered mine before it was even mentioned on the site. Update on Saturday

I'm still not clear on the right combination of LCD/devices. The monitor kit @$260 is attractive from the standpoint that it has the input devices and comes basically stripped.
But, if you want to drive the video at 1024x768 or higher you either need to be running off a video card or something like an N6, which has it's own inputs. So all you'd really need is a less expensive LCD panel, assuming you can find one.
Is that the basic trade-off, or are there other considerations?

well the way i see it you will still be using the same number of pixels no mater what, the resolution does not change, its not a 600x600 or a 640x480 the lcd panel is 1024x760 period, when running with video input your actually using all of then, man we need screen shots from this so everyone can see them, it is still the same resolution running a movie, using it with vga and computer then you will see the icons bigger and such in lower resolution mode, but quality is same
ok for a test on your computer, run a movie in 640x480 full screen then run a movie in 1024x760 full screen and see if you can tell a fifferesnce? I bet it will look the same to you because your actually using the same number of pixels period you can not change the physical number os pixels inside the lcd screen.
not is cames with a pc it is different, because software changes the way a game will look. but movies a different ball game.
anyone have any comments? but before ya do they what i said above then let me know.

Hi folks,
Did you call or e-mail Techbench to order the monitor kit? Just wondering how I can get one if I am interested. Thanks!

Bam-
I won this auction
Monitor KitThere were 3 different companies all selling the same thing when I got mine. I would try and get it for this price (or less) but not more since there were so many of them.
One company had it on a regular auction and it sold for a lot less but since it went so cheap I think they only did it once.
Good luck,
Will
