We need more of a description than than. 620W sounds like it might be HPS which is very yellow.

Are there any model numbers or markings on the bulb?
NIGHTSBIRD
Most towers now use strobes for lighting older towers used incandescent lighting.
Does your bulb look like this

If so I doubt it would be a very effecient bulb to work with. Lots of heat and probably the wrong color temp

here are the specs

These are 620 watt PS 40 shape code beacon lamps that are used on high towers like radio, microwave or bridges. They are an industry standard for this type of application.

Here are the specs

620 watt
Mogul pre-focus base
PS40 bulb shape
11,000 lumens
10 inch overall length

Thats what it looks like nightsbird, I might give it a try just for kicks but I kind of thought that it would'nt work but it was worth asking about, thanks for the info off to hunt for another light source... ph34r.gif

11,000 lumens isn't going to be enough light, also the filiment looks pretty big: not even close to a "point" light source that we're looking for...

Just to update, this bulb does not work well for a diy PJ. I ended up going out and buying a new S51 Ballast w/ E39 Socket and a Ushio S400DD Metal Halide bulb cool.gif .
