Looks like DIYProjectorCompany is joining LumenLab. Hopefully this means a larger variety of goodies for LumenLab to sell. I think this is great because it will encourage more people to try different variations of projectors all under one name, with a reliable shipping and handling name. Go LL!!!

Its not going to be "an explosion of newbs". DIYPJ only has 2465 members. Many dont post. But the core that does is very intelligent and curious like us. They are brothers to us! The lost colony, so to speak.
Its a tremendous opportunity for an infusion of new ideas, passionate debates and just one more chance to put together the ultimate optical system!

We will have some growing pains at first, and I suspect that some might not stay around. But the ones who do should be treated with respect.

Welcome them with open arms and your reward will become obvious... wink.gif

I was just over there last night checking it out, the few who do post should add some fresh insite here, I look forward to seeing what they have come up with. Good thing I am working hard to catch up on my enclosures!

Though I rarely ever post on any site (I'm a man of few keystrokes), I've been reading DPC site for a while now. (In fact, It was the first site on DIY Projectors I ever saw, so I probably wouldn't even know about the concept without it) The people are cool, if a bit smaller in number, and the fouder is one of the most helpful people I've ever emailed. My only regret is that their store is closing down when I was finally so close to being able to purchase some stuff from them. (I really hope Lumenlab incorporates some of their products.) They had a slightly better selection of lighting supplies in that they sold not only a 400w, but a 250w as well. Also, they used to have a much larger selection of glass/plastic, including support glass, IR and UV protective stuff. They have a myriad of free plans for different designs from the pico to the mkIV. Their theories section is wonderful for a noob (of which I still am after 3 years, having not yet been able to get all the parts together for my project) I highly reccommend that anybody whose never been there checks it out. Especially, the theories section. I said it once and I'll say it again, it's a wonderful place for somebody just starting out in the whole process.

I think I speak for all the mods when I say we eagerly await our DIYPJ brethren from DIYPC and we'll welcome them with open arms just like SJ said.

Thanks for the welcome!

Although my "rank" is newbie, I still know A LOT about DIY projection. I have been in DPC's forums for months. I moved here because the two were joining. Now, I still use both of course. I am wondering when LL's staff will join DPC's forums.

Im not sure how it will all shake out. The work you guys did in that forum was/is very valuable and MY perfect fantasy ( aside from immersion is a gigantic bowlful of playboy bunnies, Penthouse playmates, and hustler centerfolds covered in olive oil...uhm sorry... blink.gif...oh yeah!... ) would be to figure out a way to merge all the great information.
I have read some of your posts and recognized you. Im hoping more DIYPC folks will come over...

I am getting the feeling that diyprojectorcompany is dead. I feel it is wrong that a rep from this site has not made an announcement over there as to their intentions. Since the deal is officially done and still no response, I am calling the site dead. I wasn't going to register here, but I figured I would go ahead. That way when I do finally get to finish mine, I can show it off where someone might actually see it.

So, hello all.

well, other than the store closing, I honestly don't think anything has been decided as far as the forum goes, like SJ said it would be nice to merge them together but it remains to be seen if that can be done so I think its hard to make an announcement when it hasn't been decided what to do...Brainchild and his wife just had a baby so they've been somewhat preoccupied wink.gif

ME?!?!? Lurk? Neeeeeeeever!!! Yeah, I'm here....have been a member for some time, though this very well may be my innaugural post (I'll see after I post, I guess).

If the two do merge, I have very distinct mixed feelings. On one side, it will be very nice to have the additional input on what's right and what's wrong - this site has a larger membership, afterall. On the other, I think I may miss the small town community feeling we had over there - it was rather cozy. Ah well, I guess that "growth" is the name of the game and that's what's happening now.

So yes, I'm here... welcome to all who have just joined and who will in time.

Naa, I wouldn't go that far. We are all members of LL, afterall. Sure, there's those of us (myself included) who have whined about the potential demise of our home over at DPC, but alas, all things do happen for a reason. Who's to say at this point? I intend to keep my PLOG going over there and probably resurrect it here when the time seems right. I really don't relish the idea of double posting everything I do, but with the heat we've been having in the midwest I really haven't done much on my projector in the past couple weeks - garage is about 100 degrees at the moment. Hopefully, by the time I get back around to it, there will be a bit more direction as to where I should continue my PLOG.

Welcome to the thread, elken.

Hey guys,

Good to have some "neighbors" here. I feel like i've moved to the big city. I signed up a couple months ago and have a few post but, I always seemed to gravitate back to the DIYPJC forums. It would be nice if someone would give some good info on what is planned for the other forum. I get this feeling like it is the calm before the storm. Gus, I really like reading your blow by blow plog. I hope when the heat wave moves on we get more pix. Project widow is probably enjoying having you around more. (Or maybe not!!)

The name "Cookie" was already taken over here and I didn't want to be known as "CookieXXXX", I aready have too many numbers to remember, didn't need more.

All you folks are welcome here. Its a little large, but most folks build a PJ then go on their merry way. There is a core of folks who love this stuff and they are all good people who are helpful and courteous. The forum is still kind of up in the air.

Stick around. I think this will be trmendous fun!

Enjoy it while you can! I used to live in Concord and Portsmouth New Hampshire. Alot of people don't realize how hot it gets in New England in the summer. Of couser it only lasts 4 weeks then the snow starts falling biggrin.gif. At least the heat dries the ground up from mud season.

Just out side of StL, here... on the other "end" of I-70 from ya. Actually, I'm now an I-44 guy myself, but grew up just about a hour south of KC.

It's currently right at 100 degrees here. Supposed to be in the high 80's on Thursday & Friday then climb back into the 90's over here. Ugh - need to get some work done on that thing - but not THAT bad!

Gus,

You are the classic example of the noob riff raff DPC refugees flooding LL.

Ahhh the DPC noob ignorance of using a wimpy 1000W lamp. Your noob lack of creativity shows by not making a classic PJ box or coffee table. I mean come on; your making your house/attic the PJ blink.gif !!! Then to top it all off; you are going to hide both the screen and a tiny projection mirror by having them drop out of the ceiling... huh.gif

Well, I was going to post a link to my plog at the bottom of this, but access to the DPC forums has been restricted as of this evening. It would be a shame if all the years of valuble research and info accumulated on the DIYPJC were not accessable to anyone. Closing the DIYPJC store makes good business sense but, research is not competitive. Sometimes, searching the archives of LL returns no results that are pertinent to the question and there needs to be other avenues available for those searches. One example is the work, discussion and research that was generated on the question of using LEDs in projectors by way of the prototype that Alan was working on. It doesn't matter what the end result was for the prototype, the discussion is priceless information. The future is upon us and someday LEDs WILL be used in LL projectors. When that time comes the archived discussions on DIYPJC forums will save LL and the powers that be many hours of "what ifs". Brainchild would not be where he is today if he would not have had access to a wealth of reference info from a lot of different people and medias prior to the creation of LL. Let's keep DIYPJC info accessible for all the Brainchilds of tomorrow.

Hello & Welcome DIYProCo'ers !

Glad to see you join up on the LL forums. I hope you find the new accomodations suitable smile.gif ... by the sense of commaradarie you all share, it'll be great to have a new infusion of ideas... and certainly LED lighting is a topic of debate around here as well. Being "archived" would likely mean the information will be saved, but new posting would likely be limited to topics here at LL. ? (not entirely sure on this point however)

I might as well make my entrance here too. I've been a member (see "lurker") of DPC's forums for a while now, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to move on over. Ya know....I think the thing that urks me the most on that is that it came out of the blue. I was going to pop a link to my plog (whether or not anyone could post to it or had any desire to for that matter) and pulled up another window to navigate to it and boom - no forums - well, no useful ones anyway.

I have to admit to suspecting that the forums would be eventually shut down. The thing that really bothers me is the lack of any communication on the matter other than the pink (gaaaaah) sign at the top of the page that looks a little like this

The DIYPJC forums need to be accessible for read only searches. It is sorta like Microsofts resistance to "Open Source" coding while the rest of the tech world embraces it for the future of developement. What ever decision is made with the DIYPJC forums will tell us a lot about the character and integrity of the person making the decision. It was a very poor decision to not give anyone at least a 48hr notice to finalize any loose ends before the plug was pulled. If they cannot be made "read only" then the right thing to do would be to open them back up for a day or so to accomplish this.
I do not have a background in optics, electronics, electricity, science, or engineering and I need every available recource to get my questions answered. It is like gathering enough crumbs of info to form a whole slice of bread.
This is the end to my foot stompin and fist shaking on this subject. The cliche, "Sh%t happens" seems appropriate.
