What would you say is the problem if the bulb is firing but not staying lit. Its been working fine every day for about 6 months or so, then all of a sudden today I see the flicker and the bulb doesn't catch. It has always fired in about ~3seconds after powering up in the past.

Bad ballast maybe?

Eballast? Coil? Have you examined the lamp and it's electrical connections for signs of trouble?

Do you have a blown fuse/breaker?
[edit] forget I asked that... you obviously have power.

Its eballast, been attached outside of the box since Ive had it. Didnt notice any power problems. The strike goes, it glows for a tiny bit like a fluorescent bulb then cuts out. Like the strike isn't catching. The bulb looked ok, no weird discolorations that I can tell.

I think the ballast has crapped out personally. tongue.gif Just wondering if that is normal for a failed ballast. Its maybe 5-6 months old.

try rotating the lamp,,,,, I have found that when it wont fire on eballst, they fire on mag ballast ok,, then work again in eballast,,

Ill try that tomorrow and see if it lights in a different position.

If rotating the lamp doesn't work, try replacing the lamp. My guess would be the lamp went bad before the eballast. JMHO.

good luck,

I had a problem with my lamp not catching, it would try.. flash blue, then nothing..

I found it was the quick connect on the mogul wire.. i had mine bent my wire at the base and it had come loose, i could see it arc inside the mogul base..

Check all your wire connections especially the crimp ones one the mogul.

I had this problem yesterday when I moved my PJ to the other side of the house. My bulb had always fired right up no problem then I move it and nothing. 30 minutes go by and nothing.

Then I tried running an extension cord to the plug i used the entire time I teseted my PJ and viola!

Fired right up! I'm no electrician but maybe it could have been to much electricity running in that circuit?
Dunno. You might try plugging into another socket.

Left my extension cord at work so I can try that tomorrow. Its weird as nothing changed, just stopped working overnight.

I see a new lamp and ballast available now, I might just get both of those it looks better than the old stuff. smile.gif

I need new fresnels anyway since mine are dirty and you can see dirt and fingerprints BAD when you throw up a commercial screen. Couldn't see that stuff before. smile.gif

Edit: Would I need a new mogul with the new bulb, or is it all the same? (This is being used with the Ushio bulb currently, S400DD one.)

Same Mogul.

I totally got spoiled using a projector for everything. I'm totally slumming on a widescreen flat panel and it is SO TINY.

Netflix will like my downtime however. I refuse to watch anything on a piddly TV or LCD monitor.

But after a lot of searching, I finally got a new synthesizer to keep me busy during this downtime. smile.gif
(They've been hard to find since January for some reason.)
