Ok, so i need something to do when i go online so i figured id make a plog. Orginally i was going with punishers style, but i changed my room around and needed something to hang from the ceiling. So i went with haas's design and changed it up a little bit. I wanted an LCD TV so i wouldnt need to run througha transcoder or converter, so i went with the ever so popular Magnavox 15mf605t that everyone loves. I found on on ebay that came out to 210 total or something like that, Stipped it (which was very easy) and it works great so far.

I have my box almost completely built, Its my second project ive ever done with woodworking so bare with me when you see the pics. Anyway, im going to do something different, im going to slit the bottem cover right under the lcd and frensels, im going to run everything into the base through wires (ballast, powersupply for fans, lcd controller, and lcd ac adapter) So the only thing in the actual box will be lamp, lcd, frensels, refelctor, and rear fan. I'm using 1 120mm fan in the rear, im going to have 2 smaller fans pulling air down from the lcd going into ther base, and then im going to have a fan or 2 in the back of the base. Im also gonna slit the top cover so the fans under the lcd, can bring it right from the top of the box. Im using Tescorps keyhole idea with my lamp (which im waiting on from LL along with the new ballast) and the show drain for the focus mech.

For the top and bottem of the box, i wanted to get black plastic but ii couldnt find 1/8 thick black plastic. So i found dry erase board which is flexable and a perfect fit. I painted the back of it (cardboard like materal) black with a thick roller so it has small blotches and gives it some defination. I'm going to do a dark stain on the wood, and have all the plastic parts flat black (foucs mech, componets in the back). Also, in the box i mouthed metal sheets around the lamp using L brackets. But instead of putting it between the covers and the dowels, i put them between the dowels and lamp, so i wont have to worry about wrapping the dowels to reduce warping.

My camera is dead rigth now but as soon as i find some batteries i will post pictures of everything so far.

Heres the list:

Have:

Magnavox 15mf605t
120mm Fan
LL Lenses
Micro PSU
Alot of shit from Lowes

Waiting On:

LL Ballast
LL Pulse Lamp
Blackout cloth from LL
3x 60mm fan

If you look at my other thread, you'll see that i started peeling up a corner or something on my LCD, i didnt know what it was so i stopped doing it lol, it has some sticky stuff on the back and its thick enough to poke you under the nail if you know what i mean.

Nice enclosure, great idea using the threaded rods to adjust the lenses/lcd. smile.gif
That is definately the polariser you have pulled up on the lcd I am sorry to say! sad.gif
Nice work though so far,the haas box is a great design, and the adaptations you have made should benefit you alot.
Good luck. smile.gif

f-----k, if i just pulled up the corner, will it make a differnce, is my LCD done?

Mod edit: Sorry twOfOur, but we mods have to soften some of the linguals used around here, hope you understand.

No, it's just the corner if you can live with it. Or you can purchase a nonantiglared and non adhesive sheet of polar and place it on top or get the adhesive type and laminate it as one member here was successful in doing so.

Excellent, BTW outstanding wood work, you gots skill. Really eager to see the finish.

You could even try a dollop of cyano glue at the very corner to hold it back down flat.It maybe worth a go,the polar doesnt need to be perfectly flat on the panel to function,it should work perfectly OK. smile.gif
Good luck.

Thanks, its only my second project ive ever done with wood. I built a DVD rack out of junk wood to get used to the tools, lol it was actually my first time using the table saw when i made this rack:

heres a picture:

I should be working on my PJ more tomorrow, I'm going to be cutting the top and bottem, cutting the stands and building the base. Look back for more updates soon!

looks good so far, the keyhole slot has worked out very well for me, I want to use it to hide the screws that hold the enclosures together next.
did you paint the focus ring (shower drain)? if so, what did you use and how does it work? I didnt try anything yet as I didnt want to clog up the threads with paint. I would sure like to have these black.
you might want to cover the back dowels with a sleeve of metal so the bulb wont scorch the dowels, but it looks like you plan to have the L-brackets hold down the heat shields under the dowels.
I do like the way you have the adjustable rod set up. I make my sled staionary and have the front fresnel, bulb, and triplet adjustable.

I damged the same monitor as yours polarizer started to peel at the bottom so I just use it in compressed mode which actualy looks the best in my opinion. The only way you will see that bottom section is if you plan on using your pj with a pc unless the movie is in 16:9.

Good luck with the rest of your build.

I used gloss black plastic paint for the first coat, and then i painted it with regualr flat black. Lowes didnt have Flat black for plastic, but if the flat does chip off, it wont be as noticable as a white underneath. And it hasnt chipped off at all yet. Also the threads work great still, they are pretty big so it take some thick coats of paint to clog them up.

The only thing bad about my setup is i made the groov for the top and bottems to low, so i dont have any room to make a top or bottem of the sled. I hope that i wont make a differnce, the only thing im thinking that will happen is frensel warp? Unless i keep it cool enough and i think i will.

Ok, So i hooked up my lcd and it works (even the corner i peeled up) biggrin.gif rolleyes.gif

I cut the top and bottem to my projector today, and built the stand which is acting as the holding center for my lcd boards, ballast, PSU, and lcd ac adapter. You will see that the PJ isnt connected to the stand its just sitting on it, The PJ will sit a little higher. I ran out of painted cardboard so i had to use a pice that was unpainted, so expect that to be painted. I also cut the hole in the bottem cover to run my wires. The top of the stand slides out just like the covers for the PJ. I'm Going to be attaching the hole in the top of the stand to the hole in the bottem of the PJ with some dark cloth to block the light and match the black accents. So heres a little checklist of what needs to be done off the top of my head

1. Cut and mount the sheets of metal
2. Cut a new front and drill a new hole (currnet one is 1/8" of and pissin me off)
3. get new shoes (not so on topic)
4. Sand everything, chamfer a few edges with the router
5. Paint the top of the stand
6. Get the bulb and ballast from LL that was supposed to ship out on the 7th sad.gif
7. Figure out a way to mount my LCD and frensels where i can take them out if i need too (i was gonna go with silicon but then that would be perminate)
8. Cut holes in the back of the stand for LCD Inputs, Fans, and switches.

Thats all i can think of right now until i get my ballast.

Let me know if anythign looks bad!

looks pretty good to me, I dont see anything bad at all. I like the stand. I'm going to try some plastic paint on the focus ring, thanks.

That's the best looking Haas I've seen yet. The stand wraps around the bottom curve like rims on a car - smart. Every other Haas has been lacking in that department.

Is the ballast going to be in that stand?

Hey, I tried the plastic paint on a focus ring, it worked real well. I didnt think the paint would do well in the threads but they work just fine, Thanks! no more white focus rings!
