I will quote a good article from 'This Old House'....
"Stripping paint off an old home is only slightly more fun then a messy divorce" sad.gif

But man... this tool I got turns paint-striping into super-happy fun time.
The 'Paint Shaver Pro'......This bad larry is SICK!
I leaped before I looked in signing on to paint my friends place. The place is in ROUGH shape. But Im soooo glad I worked this tool into the budget. Take a peek....

This is the overall condition of the house.....

Say hello to my lil friend....
(See pic below)
Debris is sucked into a 1.25" vacum hose. It uses 3 little triangular Tungsten Carbide blades (which can be fliped for a fresh set after 5000 sq ft or so.

What was great too is that the company happed to be around my hometown of Providence RI. They gave me a 50$ discount for picking it up with cash in hand!

Makita makes the motor, and they make the tool right there.Click to view attachment

This little guy is nasty... Your supposed to counter-sink everything, but if you miss a few, it shaves nail-heads right off like nothing.
It certainly seems to be as hungry for flesh as say...a router, if your not carefull. You have to be on your guard and aware of what your doing just like any other tool that could hurt you. It is easy to work with, and beats the hell out of scraping and sanding any day.

Right now im just using my little 5 hp 8 gal shop vac with a HEPA filter and it works fine.
I want to get the sander and the HEPA vac too as soon as I can swing it. its good for the enviorment, and there's big bucks in legitimate and safe lead removal.

hehhehehe you surely are not suggesting that we do this on a panel ????

you know elken, you can adjust the depth to take of paint virtualy layer-by-layer. 1/16" incraments....
Now you got me thinking... huh.gif

Although I suppose I should include a disclaimer huh?

***The above posts are strictly for general discussion of a neat tool. Not related to PJ building or AG removal in anyway.

As Tim Allen would say.......'Nothing like a industrial strength paint stripping power tool to clean away antiglare in a blink of an eye. You put this bad boy on a lcd panel and guaranteed you'll be the envy of everybody from branchilds neighborhood to the dark corners of elken's downunder .....oohw, ooohw, OOOHW.....'

That is a sweet tool. So how come the sample picture has blue paint on it, but the house from the street shows grey?
elken2004

Good observation SJ,
And Elken, close shave... but no cigar my friend.

The grey is the area of the house I preped the old fashioned way with scraping and sanding. It took me two days to get it to where it needed to be for a "lifetime" paintjob. Thats Benjamin Moore 'Fresh Start' oil base primer your looking at wink.gif There's no way in hell I was going to prep that spot AGAIN laugh.gif Plus the main electical service comes in there, so best to stay clear of that with the paint striping tool anyway.

I will put a progress pic up tommorow, the front is almost done biggrin.gif

Almost done smile.gif

I had to match the color of my customer's VW bug for the door wink.gif

There are better tools on the market. I suggest Mr. Clean or 409. Those work great.
