how do you guys make screens with black borders on them?
victor-eyd
This is how I did my friend's ht.

The screen is simply the wall, painted in behr ultra pure white flat interior latex from Home Depot. The screen is a 100" 16X9, the projector is an Infocus 4805.

The black broders are primed mdf 2" or so wide strips you find in the moulding section of HD, usually used as base board trim. They were cut at 45 degree angles around the screen, painted flat black, and attached to the wall using nails.

I built a frame similar to the ones featured in these links:

The difference is that I wrapped each piece of the screen edge with black fabric (I used duvetyne - absorbs more light than black velvet). I stapled the edges of the black fabric on the back side of the frame, and then assembled it using corner braces. I then stretched the blackout cloth onto the frame- but I did not wrap it around the outside edges. Stapled into the frame at the middle of the top, pulled it tight, and stapled it into the middle of the bottom of the frame. I did about 3-4 staples into the middle of the top and bottom, then the middle of the sides, and worked my way to the corners.

I've no camera at the moment, but can arrange to borrow one if pics would help.
