Hello. I've found this calibration software that 'replaces' the OSD of almost all displays (i.e. you can change the brightness and contrast just like you would with the monitor's OSD).
Try it out here.

The only problem I have with this is that if I turn off the monitor, some changes are lost (like Red/Green/Blue black level; which aren't adjustable with the OSD). I think it might be possible to 'fix' this by writing a new EDID to the monitor, but I don't know how to do it.

This software is like a replacement for the OSD (On screen display), so it depends on the monitor you use. Why not download it and try? (by the way, when you exit the program, it asks if you want to restore the settings you had before adjusting anything with it, so it's 'safe' to use it; you can play with everything to see what happens, and then just exit and let the program reset everything laugh.gif ).
It might even let you adjust settings not adjustable through the OSD.

Nope - it only lets you adjust the settings available through the OSD

I can adjust the vertical linearity and RGB video levels and gain on my CRT, which are not adjustable through the OSD or MagicTune. I haven't tried with an LCD, so I can't comment on how many options it can adjust with one.

Anyone tried this with wine(linux)?

For linux you can use ddccontrol.
