Hi Kris.

What are you using for bulb/ballast ?
Does you LCD panel have an internal power supply, or did it come with a "power brick" that plugs into the monitor ?
How are you driving the LCD ? (HTPC or some other device ?)
How is the LCD phyiscally connected to the HTPC or other device ? (VGA, DVI, s-video, etc...)
If using a HTPC, where is it physically plugged in in relation to the rest of your PJ ?

This is a somewhat common problem, but likely can be fixed. The problem is, is that it could be a number of things, so we need to start somewhere, and eventually you'll probably get it fixed... to aid in helping you, if you answer some of the questions above, it will help tell us a bit about how your are connected and operating so we don't have to take wild guesses.

Simple things I can think of to get you started is to be sure that the LCD has the same type of grounding to the control boards as when originally installed in the monitor casing. This would involve running a ground wire to each of the control boards on your LCD (where the screws are located) to ensure this is not a problem. To my knowledge, this has only ever been a problem with some models of Benq monitors.

Another thing you can try (to statisfy my curiosity more than anything) would be to plug in your HTPC (if you are using one) in an outlet as far from where your PJ plugs in (ie. as far from the MH ballast as possible)... this was a problem for me with a sharp panel that i'm using...

Something else to consider is the length and cable quality used to connect your HTPC or controlling device to the LCD... long runs and poor quality cables can lead to the types of distortion you are seeing...

hope this helps get you started...

cheers,
gs

I am not in the process of using a bulb and ballast. I am recieving light through a 100 watt incandescent light bulb.

My monitor does come with an internal power supply.

By HTPC I'm not sure what that means but I am using a DVD player as an input.

The dvd player is connected to the panel via the RCA cable.

its weird because when i plug in my computer to the panel....it works perfectly and sometimes whne i plug in my xbox the picture is pretty good. but when i plug it into a dvd player...the image gets distorted wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

sorry, by HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) i'm talking about your PC... What is the brand of RCA cable you are using ? If it's just a cheap one that came with the unit, you may want to invest in one of better quality to see if it helps. You can get a decent quality cable from a place like monoprice.com, without having to spend a fortune... I assume that the xbox is connected via the RCA connector as well ?, but you only have the problem with the DVD connected via RCA ? What country are you in ? NTSC, PAL or SECAM based systems ?

im using one that came with the dvd player...however i have some more expensive one...would that make a difference?

see...the xbox image will shake ocassionally but not as much as the dvd...and im beginning to suspect that the dvd image is black and white...a little bit. i live in the US and im guessing we use NTSC?
Kris Vinod
hello?

anybody wanna help a poor boy who doesnt get DIY projectoring
GadgetSmith
yes, in the US is NTSC... I read something from googling your LCD that PAL/SECAM users can get this when trying to display on a device that is NTSC...

did you try the better cable ? ... did it make a difference ?
did you try plugging in the DVD player away from an outlet near the PJ power (ie. ballast power) ?

what else have you tried so far ?

doesnt the panel display NTSC? ok i will try to use better cables but with the xbox...i cant change the type of cables i use...

thanks

yes, that is why I wanted to be sure where you lived (i.e. whether you were on NTSC or not). You are in the US and on NTSC so there should be no problem...

You've pretty well covered it all with the suggestions from this site and the D.I.Y.P.C. site. Take the panel in to a service center and get a quote on the repairs, or sell it and buy something else.
Kris Vinod
ok

thanks!
