My ushio 400watt bulb and ballast i bought from the lumenlab store about a month ago don't work anymore. I wired it up and turned it on for the first time and it worked fine. I left it one for about 10 hours for the "burn in" process, and when i came down in the morning to check on it and turn it off, it was already off. It was off, and then every 10 or 15 seconds or so, it tries to start, and then dies. It will keep doing that until i unplug it. Could this be the ballast or the lamp? It seems like the lamp, because it looks like the ballast is doing the job by trying to pulse the lamp whenever it build up the power, but the lamps isn't holding the start. Anyone ever had this happen?

thanks

Yes quite often in fact.

Check all the wiring and rewire everything to make sure the connections are tight. In the lamp mogul bend the bottom tab up slightly to get a better connection. And make sure the bulb is screwed in tightly. A lot of times it requires a lot more pressure to screw in the bulb than you would think.

is there a quick way to determine if the bulb is dead or not? Does anyone know the resistance of these lamps?

If you try to measure your bulb with an Ohm meter it will measure as an open circuit. There is no filament.

So if i know my connections are good, is there any way to check for either a broken ballast or a broken lamp?
ChristmasGT
check the base of the bulb, Me and a few others found out that the glass often "breaks" near the contact at the bottom of the bulb.

also lift the metal tab in the mogul to make sure its getting a good connection, don't tighten the bulb to tight!
