I'm going to continue to work on improving my projector but I have not yet achieved results that I can be satisfied with for gaming. Without an htpc I simply can't enjoy it. So in the meantime I intend to buy a modest hdtv to play games on. And continue to tinker with my projector.

Now philips has some nicely priced 30 inch hdtv's, but I read they only run in two modes, 480p and 1080i, and if a 720p signal is fed into it, its converted to 1080i, I'm just wondering, if you convert 720p to 1080i, will there be a loss in quality? I know 1080i is higher but with a 720p signal it seems to me you'd end up with something more like 720i. True? Or not true?

i dont think phillips even makes a tv that is even capable of displaying a 1080i resolution (1920x1080). They highest i've ever seen is something around 1366x768.

I dont get why tv manufacturers say that there televisions can disply 1080i HDTV formats when the TV doesnt even have close to the correct resolution.

Its not an lcd, its one of those high def widescreen crt's. However you still might be right. A lot of them actualy refer to the "accepted" resolution which is then scaled down.
