I guess i just wanted to confirm that the buhl triplet and 220/550 fresnel combo would result in perfect focus during widescreen (16x9) area. I will post pictures in the next few hours of all four corners.
That thing weighs a ton, but I cant believe i waited until now to install the thing. Would recommend.
whats your trhow and your lcd size?

trhow is crucial talking about corner focus...
yes, your short trhow helps on that.

Well done, from the pictures Brightness/Even looks really quite good.
Forgive me for asking..but are you using a pro reflector or/and condensor ?
Cheers

WHoops looked again at the last pic...
2 questions
The projector looks quite low in relation to the ceiling, how high is it..is it a headbanging issue?
Also when you sit ...can you see the projector (does it get into the line of site)
Thanks again

pro reflector or/and condensor
I have a pro reflector, it does no good. I use an ed-28 EYE HOR m59, i think its too big to make a difference. Ive never had a reflector make any visable difference though.

Some people have banged their heads on it. My roomies and I never do....we are trained lol. You cant see it when sitting at all.
Thanks

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the room size. More the lack of brightness that drove me crazy.
I had always had the buhl lens and fresnel i just never installed them being too busy with work / girlfriend. Im glad i finally did.

the ikea napkin ring didn't help? I used and ed28 in my first build and properly focused I measured about a 20% increase in lumens...

yes, i'll second what mikyd said... about 20% increase with ikea napkin ring and BT-28 HOR EYE. (not sure if you meant bt-28 or ed-28 ?) ... you should be able to see this difference pretty well. My Ikea napkin ring was almost touching the lamp when in the proper position.

I woder is some people is more sensitive to that "lumen" things
the fact is that pro reflector is near twice as bright as other ikea kind reflectors (measuremets based comparation) but it looks like some people is not able to distingish it by looking to it...
maybe the photoraphic memory is the key here... I have problems determining the best equalization on audio equipment too, I am all the time wondering "is that preset better than the last one?"

rox,
mikelish was trying the pro reflector with a BT-28 bulb shape, so this is not surprising he didn't see a difference, as the reflector placement was too far away with that shape of bulb.
I do agree that it's hard to judge, and it is certainly subjective, so it's up to each person to report what they find... the thing is i'm getting better at it... but even now, when I think I see a difference, my lux meter sometimes proves me wrong !
mikelish
May 8 2006, 03:01 PM
I can move the reflector and bulb from the outside of the box while watching an image. I can tell somethings changed, but its not for any better.
Anyone got a local IKEA want to hook me up with a reflector, ill try it. Yes gadget i may have it confused, i know its bt28 or ed28.
I think the pro reflector is nice, but obviously doesnt net me any result i can visualize due to probably too large of bulb.
ups... I didnīt chaught it... the bulb shape... yea.
the pro reflector was exclusivelly made for the T6...

Is there a source for these Buhl lenses, or do you just have to scour eBay?

ebay is it pretty much.... theres one or two on there now..however, if it doesn't give the width and diameter, make sure you ask for it...you want the 5"(or 5 1/4" ..its more than 5" anyway) wide one(over 6" long)..... there are some buhl or beseler lenses out there that are 18" FL but only 4" wide(like mine)... best to run a search like " opaque proj* " ... there is an american optical opaque lens out there now I know...
edit: beseler or buhl, both about the same...

Will try it out later tonight and post my conclusions.

mikelish,
for the bt28 lamp you should probably place it such that the reflector almost touches the lamp where it "bubbles out"... it will become clear as to what this means when you go to install it.
you have a lux meter ?
I think for me it was about 20% increase... I had used my PJ for some time before installing a reflector, so it certainly made a difference to my eyes.
are you using anything for a reflector now ?
good luck, interested to see what you come up with... hopefully it will be worth the time...
cheers,

Ive been using the proreflector which i believe to be too small for this bulb.
Yeah the reflector will be placed on a moveable adjustable arm , so ill be able to fine tune it. I know what you mean about the "bubble".
Thanks again

Alright, put it in last night before the hockey/basektball game
Does make a difference, more so than the pro-reflector does.
So moral is:
A.) Gadget is the man
B.) if you have anything other than t15 or smaller, dont use the pro reflector

I'm very pleased with my 18"efl American Optical lens. The increase in brightness was very noticeable.
Currently my throw is 11ft (132") from lens to screen with a 7ft (84") wide projection. Take a look
here.

What would be the efect of using this type of lens but with it having an E.F. of 22" instead of 18"?

well, the throw would be increased(further from the projection screen to getthe same size projection) and I would think maybe it would focus better on a 17" lcd

It will focus better and still be brighter. You might want to use the 650mm/330mm fresnel combo. What exact projector did that lens come from? They are vary rare.
In fact if you wanted to start a thread on just that triplet and take it apart to find the fl of each lens and the spaceing that would be great. Is it the same as the 18" with different spacing ? are all the lenes different? or just one?

It was on ebay in the form of an opaque projector by Taylor, a TS-4. Unfortunately I lost the auction to a damn sniper. I have seen other TS-4s with the 18" one though so I dont know what the difference is.

you might look over on www.diyaudio.com ("the Moving Image" forums , I know guy grotke uses a 22"(pretty sure anyway) ...there may even be a couple of threads about the 22" FL lenses
