Hi,
I've been research electronics in the UK, and I've seen the MT400SX from Iwasaki mentioned a couple of times. I'm considering buying this (not sure where yet), and getting the rest of the electronics from Lampig, who conviniently for me are about 5 miles from where I live.
My question is - what will happen if Iwasaki stop producing that bulb at some point in the future - will the electronics I get from Lampig be able to support other bulbs? (I don't know exactly what ballast etc I'll be buying - am intending to ask Lampig's advice on this.)
One other question: On the lumenlab guide it only seems to talk about a ballast and socket for the bulb. Yet in other postings I've seen people discuss the ballast, capacitor, and ignitor for their setup. What is the function of the capacitor and ignitor?
Sorry if this is already covered elsewhere - I've looked but haven't been able to find clear answers.
Thanks!
Luke

Hi Luke,
I'm afraid I am a bit in the dark too at the moment having not had time to continue with my project (bought the monitor and lenses so far) but it's good to see another UK projector enthusiast on here, so I wanted to say "Hello".

Will be in touch if I find anything useful.
Best regards,
Mark

hi there luke
ive just started my projector, i got all the bits on friday havent done much with it at the mo i have been busy this weekend but it comming along. i fired the light up for the first time yesterday and it is so bright the room was pitch black then it was like it was day light. lol
Just to answer your question. i got the lamp from lumen labs and i have all the lampig bits ballast, ignitor and cap, basicaly you need the ballast and the ignitor to turn the lamp on.
You wire power in to the ballast then the charge that comes out of the ballast goes to the ignitor wich in turn turns the lamp on. its like a strip light that you may have in your house or you see in most shops. when you turn them on they flicker and then start, the ignitor basically gives the charge to the lamp to start it. im not too sure it you even need the cap but the cap is used to smoth the input of power so there is not to much flickering of the lamp
if you just tell the guys at lampig that you want a ballast, igniton and cap for a 400W bulb they will know what you want straight away, i think they get it alot. hope you have luck with the projector i hope to get mine finished off soon

For anyone not clsoe to RS Comonents, you can buy one at
DIY-Beamer.com.
Sculptor purchased a 400W HQI back in October 2006 for $37 US online. See his plog &
