Full Version: Anyone Used a 5" Zenith PS2 LCD
Lumenlab > LLAVS: Lumenlab AVS > Advanced Projector Builder > Projectors based on small panels
Marlowe
I'm thinking of building a small panel projector and since the PSOne LCD's are now scarce, I've seen 5" Zenith PS2 LCD's going for under $50 shipped. I want to build a low-cost projector on the first go round:

5" Zenith PS2 LCD

Does anyone know anything about this monitor? It's suppossed to be "high-resolution," but since it is really for experimentation I'm more concerned whether or not is strippable. $50 is still $50 that I'd rather not waste. Thanks for any insight.

Well, that zenith is the same as a Verge xbox screen I have. And if I'm not mistaken (havent tore it down yet) it is a psone screen in a different case. I have 2 of them and I have to admit that the picture is nice. I originally bought one to strip for the projector, but when i tested it i like the picture so much that i kept it for my xbox. So I had to buy another and i haven't tore into it yet. But I'm fairly certain it is internally identical to the psone screen.

Thanks for the reply, dissident. This looks promising because it appears to have a swivel base, which should mean a more forgiving connection to the circuit board than the PSOne screen.

Welp, here's a link to a thread over at mp3car.com that states that the verge screen is the same as a psone. Apparently its missing one of the daughter cards. Of course there are links to the pinouts without that card, and a link to the vga hack. Now I can be sure that the zenith is also a psone as i have both and the only differance is the logo silk screened on the unit.

Good luck, anything else i can do let me know.

What inputs does this screen have right out of the box?

Both of the screens i have have a mini AV input, and comes with a cable to plug into the proprietary connector on the back of an xbox, I'm sure the PS2 versions are the same. You can pick up a mini AV cable for 5-10 bucks on ebay and it will work perfectly. Thats what I did. Works like a charm. Of course once it gets opened up I'm going to solder wires directly and eliminate the extra cables jacks and hardware. But it is a good way to play with the screen. Radio Shack even has the cables, but your going to pay a premium there.

YOu know what also works well, portable DVD players...Thats what I'm running on mine, i even molded the dvd part into the top of my proj so I dont need any extra cables smile.gif
