I've finally completed my new projector and "finished" tweaking it.

I was happy with my 1st pj but the layout of my living room precluded moving the sucker any closer than 12.5 feet from the screen, consequently brightness and resolution suffered. It can be seen here:

Monitor used: Samsung 512n w/ AG removed

Standard Lens and fresnels

T15 Pulse Strike Kit

Straight throw projector mounted on a sled within a larger box.

Distance to screen 7"

Computer: Inspiron 9100
Software: Zoomplayer and FFDSHOW
Sound: 5.1 surround sound using Logitech computer speakers run off of an Audigy USB 5.1 adapter

Below is the room before beginning the new projector

Here's what it looks like in the big box.

And, now for some pics of the projector running. This projector is vastly brighter than my first. There are several reasons for this: 1) it is closer to the screen by nearly 50%; 2) it is not a vertical projector; and 3) I'm using the new reflector.

Consequently, I'm able to watch the projector with the lights on if I want to. My old projector required the lights to be out all over the downstairs, which was a hassle if the whole family wasn't watching the movie. Now, we can watch with the lights out as a family or a couple of people can watch something while everyone else does their own thing.

These first pictures are taken by my back door looking across my kitchen with both kitchen lights on - a hanging fixture and a large 2 bulb flourescent fixture. The room is quite bright.

You can see my old 2:35 screen in this pic as well. I'll be building a 4:3 to match the light image seen here.

Very neatly done rpearsey, very neat. Curious though, are you playing your projections from a cpu or a dvd player and where is it located?
rpearsey
Here's is what all the work over the last few months has given me. Below is a comparison of the two projectors.

Thanks!

I'm running the projector off of an Inspiron 9100 laptop computer with an Audigy USB 5.1 soundcard. The computer is housed in the TV armoir that can be seen above.

WOW! The shots are stunning! Awesome job on getting the picture bright throughout the projected image! Very nicely done! What sort of material did use to make your screen? I'm assuming you made the screen.

Looks great!! biggrin.gif What size is your projected image? Also, what reflector are you using?

Thanks!

It's blackout cloth ordered from Lumenlab. As good as it is, I'm thinking of plunking the money down for some higher gain material. The image is passable during the day. I'd like to be able to watch it anytime I wanted.

Thank you!

The image is 82" across. The reflector is the new pro reflector from Lumenlab

You have some great results and your box looks very neat, all it needs is a nice paint job.

But this particular comparison leaves me in the dark. In one, Gandalf has his staff orb lit up, but on the other older one, his orb is not lit up, correct? The frames seem to be within a second or two, but to correctly compare both, we would need to see the same frame, or basically same shot.

I think that the in the top picture, his orb actually might be lit up, but its off screen to the top possibly.

Last night, I took a comparison shot of the exact frame (more or less) and the picture was washed out. It was 1ish in the morning and the projector had just been shut off. So, I took on I had from the same sequence and used it instead. Look carefully at the dark picture - the orb is lit. You can see it's faint glow and the light from it on his face.

This really isn't a fair representation of what that scene currently looks like. Whereas the above is.

Here's the pic -

Here's the uncropped picture -

This pic also shows one of my remaining problems to fix. There's some light escaping around the lcd. You can see it at the bottom of the pic.

Sweeeeet! Your results are awsome. I like how your ceiling mount looks too.

did i see a shower drain as the adjustable lenses mount?, ive been thinking about doing the same thing. Where did you get it, and what size is it.?

Very nice...!

How are you doing your keystoning...?

I'd love to see inside as I'm building a ceiling mounted unit myself.
Could you please share any tips you've learned about "tweaking" a ceiling unit.

Again, great job.

I built a 4:3 screen using the RSMaxxLL formula - a diy high gain screen paint application.

This pic was taken at 9am on a bright cloudless morning.

Now thats a pretty good image. How much would you say you spent, on just the projector?
