HI well ive wired my ballest directly to the bulb and it doesn’t give enough current to keep it going so it looks like I blew a cap. I could hunt and try to find a place that will replace it or I probably will buy a new non Eballest, what do you guys recommend, something sturdy and quiet
my bulbs a uhi-s400DD Ultra Arc
I tested my ballest with a Philips 400w bulb and it flickered like mad so im guessing its the ballest- anyone have one of these, how do they act for you?
cheap is good as well

Got mine at
www.hidirect.com. I believe I got the new customer/first order discount even though technically I did not qualify. Good luck dude.

lol model numbers, experiences, how noisey they are, where you got it, things like that would help

and if you have a philps bulb let me know how it runs because if yours flickers makes noise, then my 1 bulb might still be bad

M135 ballast. www.hidirect.com. No noise. Perhaps a small hum if you put your ear on it but it gets 200 degrees F so I wouldn't recommend doing that. I have an Ushio T15 Pulse Strike. Two 2 hour burns so far rock solid no flickering. I don't see many people with coil & core ballast problems posting. Nothing is cheap!
Edit: You'll have to verify you're getting the correct ballast. It should be clear on the website.

so would that run the uhi-2400dd ultra src?
also howd you mount that if it gets that hot?? do you have to put it above the bulb or anything screwy?
and my case has 2 inch wood so i shouldent hear it correct?
how big is the thing, those look like monsters

The Ushio S400DD Ultra-arc requires and ANSI S51 coil and core ballast. (S51 is actually a HPS ballast, but is needed for running the S400DD ushio bulb)
As for the Philips 400W bulb you have, you need to provide more information to determine what ballast that would require.
cheers,

ok well im testing my balelst because it wont maintain my s400dd bulb after start, so i bought a new bulb the philps one from home depo to test it
, and that bulb flickers ao makes noise so either thats normal my ballests working, or my eballests fried, so im looking for a replacement at this point, im not sure if i should get a coil and core or another Eballest but I dont want to be out another 60 bucks, also How often can you get these things repaired, could a local lighting shop fix it?(the eballest)
does LL fixe them or simply replace them

Most likely the philips bulb from Home Depot have an M59 ANSI rating. The thing about the coil and core ballasts is that you need to choose the right ballast for the bulb you plan to use. There are currently 3 bulbs that are used, requiring 3 different coil and core ballasts. With the eballast you can run all three using the same ballast.
Ushio S400DD bulb (or other conversion type bulb) => S51 ballast (HPS ballast)
Ushio PS T15 bulb (or other Pulse Strike Bulbs) => M135/M155 ballast(s)
Standard Probe Start Metal Halide Bulbs => M59 ballast.
You would need to contact LL to ask about repairing... help@lumenlab.com

How do you mount these things if they hit 200F? do they overheat at all? and if so when, when they catch fire hehe
ok now for my bulb Ushio S400DD bulb (or other conversion type bulb) ill need the s51, sodium is what im guessing here, but i just want to make sure as the chioces are
-Pulse Start Metal Halide
-Standard Metal Halide
-High Pressure Sodium------ V90D1912K 400W S51 120 / 208 / 240 / 277 CWA $56.50 Correct? although im not sure what they mean by "pulse strike" as thats what I think my bulb does

http://www.hidirect.com/framesets/ballast.htmYou can mount these in the box, near the lamp, but you will need 1)some flashing to protect direct radiant heat from the bulb and 2) design the cooling circuit to blow air over the ballast in order to keep it cool. This is pretty well covered, even in the basic LL guide.
Yes, the V90D1912K would be a suitable ballast for the Ushio S400DD lamp.
Take a read of
this spec sheet It gives a good idea of the differences between probe start and pulse strike. Basically a pulse strike lamp will have an additional ingitor that needs to be wired externally for starting the lamp. Pulse strikes are becoming more favorible as they last longer with better lumen maintainence, improved hot re-strike times, etc...

alright sounds good I have a tescorp Hass so i might move it right under the bulb because it could overheat up front, just worried about the heat issue. looks like brain wont touch a eballest so im stuck with the standard
Ill probably buy it tonight just want to make sure the s51 was good, aslo are these tricky to wire sense they take all different voltages?

generally they are well marked for wiring purposes. you will only be using the 120v line and not the 208, 240 or 277. if you have questions after getting it, just post here and someone will help out.

My ballast is very well marked and all wires are color coded and some even have designations stamped upon them like "COM" along their lengths.
My capacitor and ignitor were already wired. All I had to do was feed it through the proper hot leg (120VAC in my case), tie the commons together, and wire in the lamp mogul.
Post specific questions regarding your new ballast back in this thread (if you have any) and someone should pick up on them.
Since you got your eballast from ebay I think Lumenlab maybe won't want to deal with a repair? Someone may want it on the Trading Post though.
