Full Version: Andy's Haas 15"

Im just about done putting everything together for my 15" Haas style Projector. The console was built by Tescorp (a very well built and attractive looking console). I will have to borrow a digital camera to get some pictures here very soon as I have yet to get around to buying one of my own lol.

After reading through several posts trying to figure out what I did wrong to cause my corners to be so dark I discovered even after checking the fresnel lenses several times I still managed to install them backwards. After a quick swapping of the two lenses I all of a sudden had very even lighting all the way to very well defind edges (what a difference that made).

Thank you Tescorp for the great console. Considering the lack of woodworking tools that I have (or better said dont have) I would have had a difficult time building such a great looking console. I will add more details to all the working parts inside the console later after I get home tonight and do some final tweeking to the system. All I really have left to do is situate the living room to set everything up where I want it at. And I need to get a real projection screen now I guess. If I can borrow works camera tonight I will get some initial pictures posted up here also.

Ok here are some initial shots that I took tonight. Things are a little out of focus because I somehow managed to get things a little warm near the rear fresnel and warped it. Ive ordered a replacement but even with the slight warp the pictures seem to come out just fine.

First shot is D&D online just to show what an online game looks like.

The next few images are shots with different levels of lighting in the movies to get an idea of the colors and how well things are lighting up.

Pure awesomeness man. You should post some pics of your projector.

Sure things will add some pictures of the box when I get the new rear fresnel in to replace the one I warped. Will add the list of components in so that you guys can see what I worked with for now.

Im using a 15" Dell 1505FP. It has both a DVI and VGA input. It stripped down fairly easy and has no cable issues. The AG removal was a little tougher and I noticed a spot in the upper left hand side that I must have missed some of the adhesive that held it in place (a little dark patch). I will have to pull the panel back out and clean it off a bit better to remove that spot.

The lenses are the standard lumenlab.com set (not the pro).

And the Console is a Haas 15" build. This was built by Tescorp for me as I have very few wood working tools on hand so this was a better route for me to go. Even if I had the tools I have no shop to do the work in.

Right now the projection screen is just a queen sized bed sheet so the wall behind it is affecting the colors slightly also. I did this for testing so that I can adjust to the size I desire then choose a real screen after I have the size picked out that I want it to be. Im pretty sure the picture is going to improve considerably with a real projection screen. Im getting amazing results with a bed sheet so I cant even imagine what its going to look like on a screen designed to do this kind of thing.

Something to watch out for is that if you are building a consol check your dimenssions agains the new bulb that lumenlab.com is shipping out. It is narrower and longer than the older bulbs and throws the dimenssion of the box out of wack. In the Haas console if the box is not built wider than its current specs then you will be unable to center the newer bulbs. I resolved that issue by purchasing a different bulb. This one doesnt seem to put out quite as white a light though its more to the yellow side giving softer colors. Though as you can tell from the pictures above I cant complain to much about the colors as they are still quite vibrant even in a slightly lit room.

Right now everything runs through my computer and out the DVI port from my video card. It will probably stay that way because I play the dvd's straight from the computer and my satalite tv goes through the computers capture card so that I can record the movies as well as play them through the system. I may try to locate a vga to rca adapter (Im pretty sure Ive seen those before) so that I can run some different items like my xbox directly to the projector rather than through the computer. Because of the way the program works on the capture card there is a slight delay in video transmission and that wont work for the xbox at all. If anyone knows where I can find an adapter like that could you please pm me or post it here so that I can get one ordered.

Nice pics! smile.gif have you hooked up TV to the pj?
My screen is from Joanne Fabrics blackout cloth and wood with a felt border. Only cost about $50 bucks to make but you need a saw at least. I dont have my TESCORP box yet so i dont have pics.
I had a Dell also and the AG removal was horrible but it still works. Looks like i loosened the glue between the polarizer and the lcd so i too have some spots. but i dont know if they will show up.

A quick search on xbox scene turned up this tutorial
on how to get a VGA out of your xbox (I'm assuming it's not a 360)...

Has anyone tried anything like this out and if so how well do these converters work?
