Hi folks, We are in the process of obtaining screens for the community. We will offer fully automatic electric screens with remote for roughly $150. Gain on the screens is 1.5:1. I have a sample of one of these and they are fantastic. You can save $50 by gettting a manual version. Please vote in the poll to help us know what you want.
Thanks!

Some of both. They'll be made for us by a screen factory.

Will there be a difference in price between the 90 and the 120? If there isnt then this could influence the poll. People tent to be modest if they believe that bigger is going to be dearer. They may vote for a 90 because they believe it will be cheaper but if the price were to be the same or only slightly dearer for the 120 they may vote differently.

Will you have samples. I usually tape a sample to my current screen and watch them both at the same time to evaluate their relative brightness. Unfortunately, I have found that even the high power screens don't provide a significant difference (actually, no difference at all) for my setup compared to the polywall. My pj is cieling mounted only 6' from the screen. This seems too steep an angle to take advantage of any high gain characteristics.

This is not a high gain screen at all. 1.5:1 is barely any gain. I'm sure I can arrange for fabric samples.

How does that compare with black out cloth's gain?

First of all, this is so cool! I can't wait! But I have a question that will show my ignorance: what is the difference between white screen and black screen? I would think that nothing would show up on black (obviously not) so what is really going on? Can someone enlighten me?

... I think by asking if you want white or black, he is mearly asking about the color of the enclosure for the screen... not the actual screen itself.
There are black screens out there designed for producing a better picture in ambient light... there are even threads dedicated to the subject, but I don't believe this is what brain is asking here.
cheers,

Hundred Fifty clams? Ya cain't build one for much less than that.. even using B/O cloth. 'Less ya gots all the stuff in yer shop..
I'm happy w/ my screen so far. Just B/O wrapped around a 2X6 frame, nailed to the wall.. but it's a temporary dig, until I get the actual theatre ROOM built!
Inasmuch, I'd EZ order a 1.5:1 screen for a 120" with elec and remote for anything under 200 George notes if I had my building built!!
No probs

Wow can I pre order one of there in 120" 16:9 electric! damn thats an awesome price! I am going to be building my pro setup so I will be needing a second electric screen pretty soon. Many of you have probably seen my write up on the electric screen I built. I built mine for $126 so $150 is a bargain!

How much vertical headroom is taken up (or "wasted") by the screen enclosure itself?
I've got a crowded situation and am trying to plan things out to the sub-inch level in terms of triplet height from the floor and screen distance from the ceiling.
Also, regarding the "Special Black Masking Borders", on a 100 inch diagonal screen is there a true 100 inch diagonal or is some of that eaten up by this mask?
Sorry for being so picky but ya never know.

The enclosure is not very big, under 4" tall. For the borders, I can't say. I donated my screen sample as well as my Ally PTV sample to a charity who needed them when I left Virginia. I'll check into it for you.

What kind of mount will these screens require?
Can they hang, or will they have to be mounted to a wall?
In the space I'm planning to use, I'll have to hang it from the ceiling so that I can pull it down in front of the regular TV.

Looks like we're in a dead heat when it comes to color and manual/electric. I voted for black/manual.
Re: Color
Maybe you should order a bunch of white, and anyone who doesn't like it can go to wally world and buy a can of spray paint and masking tape?
Re: Motor
This is a tough call... $50 isn't going to be a deal breaker for me, if I have to get the super cool feature of a motorized screen, then I guess I can deal with it. On the other hand, I don't see it being much of a problem to have to reach to the ceiling every now and then...
Are there any advantages to the motor other than the coolness factor? Like, is it comon to pull a manual screen down crooked or something? Are manual screens hard to get back up, or does the retraction mechanism fail (like with venetian blinds)?
One more question: since most of use with "16x9" LCDs are actually using 16x10, or 8x5 LCDs, is this going to make any difference with the projection screen? A true 16x9 screen would have to be ~11% longer than it's reported size to accomidate our projections.

Yeah... What he said.

...and I have another question, which may have already been answered, but I want to say something more interesting than, "bump."
How are the electric models wired? Would I have to put a junction box right behind the screen mount?

Well, I've suddenly got an issue where I think I'm going to need a screen. Looks like my projector is headed for new digs, and where it's going, I have dark wood-panel walls. Not good for use as a screen at all, and I don't think I can get away with painting it white.
I think I voted for a slightly smaller screen, 110" 4:3 -- that being about what I'm using now. I'll probably want to go to a bit larger in the new place though. Probably 120" 4:3 -- I still want the 4:3 aspect ratio for gaming.
