I have this intel motherboard in my pc.

It supports 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound thru either individual cables (like stereo cable) or optical cable.

does any one know how to enable optical output (S/PDIF Out)? I tried bois and control panel->system->device manager.

OR what kind cables to use for the other outputs . I want to connect this pc to my receiver which can take 6.1 input or optical input.

here is how it looks like.

thx.

Aside from going to Intel site a downloading the users manual...smile.gif
I would disconnect all cables except for the toslink, make sure your receiver is set to optical input, and then start playing around with it. Right click on the speaker tray icon and goto adjust audio properties. Under advanced there should a tick box for "Output Digital Only" check that. Most Receivers like 48 PCM. Some of the programs that come for your onboard sound will also allow you to adjust it. Many of the newer audio chipsets will detect the presence of a toslink and output accordingly, but you may still have to adjust it inside the OS.
Sorry I cant be more precise. I checked around my current digs and there are no digital audio PC's.

What OS are you using?

hey sj,

XP Media edition. didn't find anything on intel's web site. to call them, they would cahrge $25 per call.

I have tried the optical iniput and optical cable only, no luck.

I didn't find the check box that you are mentioning.

thx for the help.

Since Intel doesnt sell their MB's directly, you would have to go to your reseller's website and download their manual. But it really should not be that hard. If you want, I can coach you from my computer when I get home. Are you using the XP sound layer, or the Intel sound interface? IE does it have a special set of programs to control it, or is it just the usual XP stuff?

OK I have 5.1 Dolby digital sourround sound thru toslink (Optical ) audio output from my intel mother board in my pc.

It is connected to my Yamaha receiver.

I had to ckeck several options in the soundmax utility like auto detect and auto change speaker config etc.

What Yamaha Receiver do you have ? What bit rates (sampling rates) does it support ?

The reason I ask these questions is that I had a problem when connecting my receiver to the digital output of my sound card. My sound card was sending a 96KHz signal, but my receiver only supported 48KHz... I changed my setup on the PC to output 48KHz and voila!, it started working... just a thought...

cheers,
