Weeee. Not near enough planning going into this, but I just can't stand to wait any longer.

I've already gotten together most the parts:

Samsung 740B from newegg
Pro triplet from LL
220/550 400x320mm lenses from 3dlens
Wiring and lighting kit from LL(pulse strike t15)
Pro reflector
18x18 sheet of Lexan
3/4" MDF and random varieties to build frames with
Wood glue and some silicone

The plan is to mount the lenses and LCD in frames to run along a threaded rod with a "box within a box" adjustable triplet. Unfortunately my craftsmanship could be outdone by a thumbless muppet, so I'll need some luck.

First thing I did was strip the LCD, figured I'd have time to do the rest while I waited on shipping if I broke anything wink.gif

I followed the 740N picture guide along with nickestorga's text version in Steve_TO's plog here: http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10366

The only difference was getting the FFC control board thingamabob loose. Instead of 1 microscopic screw I had to deal with 4. There was also some glue to scrape off the cable end but it came off without trouble. Anyway, three screwdriver sets later I ended up buying a "precision" set at Home Depot and was finally able to proceed.

I moved straight to AG removal on the front side.

I don't have any pics of the process itself, but I tried to cover the sides with sheets of paper to protect from any water that went overboard. I used some fridge temperature bottled water and soaked 2 paper towels on top of the screen and covered lightly with some plastic wrapping.

I did a pretty crap job and thought I might have some air pockets, so 90 minutes in I went to replace the paper towels. Curiousity got the best of me though, and I picked at a corner with my fingernail and off it came, no effort whatsoever.

Unfortunately it seems I let some water leak in from the bottom right side. It doesn't seem to come off with wiping and even looks like it's under another layer. I haven't tried the LCD yet since but I hope it doesn't affect it much, or atleast not in 16:9.

I'm contemplating removing the backside AG now, but haven't read much about it. I don't even know for sure it has one and don't want to remove something I shouldn't.

Besides that, woodworking will hopefully commence today, and I'll probably put in an order for the PT-6 thermostat(Home Depot's around here are barren) and a 120mm fan or two. Also planning to find a 12v adapter somewhere in the house to use.

Well, it's all done. Turned it on today for the first time and was impressed with the results considering the horrible alignment of things.

To recap on AG removal since the last post, I ended up removing the back side as well, it came off within an hour or two of starting soak without problems(Note: I'm in Miami, FL where it's really humid. Don't know if this had an affect on removal speed). However, it left a lot of glue residue that was a ball of fun to clean with a lens rag and distilled water rolleyes.gif

If you have the 740B I'd highly recommend AG removal, but let it soak longer than I did, and hopefully it won't leave as much glue.

On to the pics:

3 feet long just about. Two swinging covers on top with a slit between them to allow air intake. Also turns out it's even more effective at letting light out ohmy.gif

Back using a flashlight posing as a lantern. Ballast is mounted outside box. No, I probably won't ever clean up the wiring

The following are on my white, textured wall, most with a small-moderate amount of ambient light. The light leaks on all 4 sides of the image have since been covered dry.gif. Pics taken on auto mode with flash off.

First projection, went straight for the money shot biggrin.gif
