Well, I finish my projector this friggin week, so I went out and bought a home theater receiver that supports DTS and DD, I was really excited. So I hook up my Klipsch Promedia 5.1s to it (yes you can do that), and I my damn subwoofer amp dies on me. sad.gif This seriously sucks big time, I am so bummed, was gonna have the whole deal, 5.1 digital surround sound, thumpin bass, AND a huge projector screen. Well, looks like I'm in the market for a new sub, if you guys wouldn't mind postin suggestions for budget subs that cost no more then $250 I would really appreciate it. Oh and preferably bigger subs, this will be mainly for watching movies.

Thanks in advance guys. smile.gif sad.gif

Why dont you just replace the amp?

DAZZZLA
Rip the lid of that sucker and see if you can see any serviceable parts. Eg fuse.

Blake, try hooking it up to a computer again and see if it works. Since the ProMedia 5.1 has mini plugs for inputs I'm not sure how you had it hooked up to a home theater receiver. Did it work at all when you had it hooked up or did it blow right away?

No it worked great for a few days, I used a 1/8" to RCA cable to hook it up. And DAZZZLA I'll try that, good suggestion. smile.gif

I dought they sell the amp for this sub. And even if they sold one with similar specs, the odds are it'd vary in size and would be either too big or too small. I could however be wrong, please correct me if I am, I'd love to replace the amp if it's possible with a nice regular HT sub amp so that I can hook it up like a regular sub.

or look at the big output transistor(s) attached to a big heatsink to see if they are burned

Post the specs for the amp. Maybe we can find one for you...

just a suggestion, ... one or two of these babies should be within your budget, .. though they might not do the lowest octave very well (20-30Hz) smile.gif , .. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...633&dotd=060906

multiple subs can also help to cancel room modes therby smoothening out your bass

I don't know if this is hijacking the thread or not, but my 10 inch power HT sub also recently died. It was connected to the SUB out on my AMP via RCA cable. I noticed a few weeks ago that the power was no longer coming on. I opened it up to see if I could find the problem. I powered it up again while I had the amp out of the box and one of the transisters blew. Anyway, I took it in to the only good shop in town and since he couldn't get a repair manual for it, I was told it could not be fixed (that's after I pay $30 to look at it). I can't afford another $300CAN for a new sub. Am I in the same boat as blake?
