Welcome to my PLOG! My name is Alex and I'm from Tas, Australia.
Even though it's only early days this plog will cover the planning stages up until the finished product. I plan to use a 15" LCD and am just trying to figure where I will position the projector.

Let's get this show on the road..

At the moment I'm unable to work out where I will position my projector. It's temping to put it hanging off the roof but at the same time I could possibly hide it under my desk and have it tilted upwards at the screen but I'm unsure if this would be sucessful?

If I was to put the projector hanging above my desk it would be 10ft from the projector to the screen while
location ?(Under the desk) is 6 1/2ft from proposed screen position.

With a distance of 6 1/2 foot, how big would the projection be? I'm not aiming for a huge projection as I will be sitting kind of close to the screen (my bed) and if it covered the whole wall, it would be kind of hard to see! Has anyone done a similiar setup with a projector on the floor from a distance facing upwards? Ofcourse I'l be modding the desk smile.gif

If anyone could provide any thoughts of where they would position it that would be great! Under the desk is appealing to me as hanging off the roof could look kind of ghetto as my room is pretty small!

Thanks lads.

You can use Dazzzla's Focallenght calculator to help answer these questions. found here.

.. but basically, with a 15" LCD and the LL standard optics (320mm FL triplet & 317mm field fresnel), you would be getting an 83" screen at 6.5 feet... here is a capture from Dazzzla's program:

Am unsure what to do.. I have the option to buy a projector which is $800 (new)

(Acer PH110 )
While this idea has it's high points: smaller unit, price isn't too bad.
The diy option is also very appealing: cheap to make, cheap globes..

Probably will take the diy route, but I'm wondering if I should just not bother and buy this acer one?

If you are considering going a commercial unit I would suggest looking at the LL unit they will be selling in the near future... the biggest difference would probably be lamp replacement costs. The Acer is $409 AUD, but the LL one is ~$40 USD. ?? check it out here

Don't get me wrong, i'm certainly not try to discourage you from going DYI (as this is certainly my choice), but LL is now offering that commercial style unit for a good price, with excellent bulb replacement costs...
