well you know the story i was stripping lcd it had a dab of glue holding it closed i tried to lift it up couldnt so i took small screwdriver to pry it and my hand sliped when it let go. my question is, my tear is ri.ght at the end and it tore 3 or 4 lines thru the ffc i was wondering if you thought it was possible to solder wires to these three pin and then attach them to the ziff conector i think that is wat they call it.and then i would connect the circut againafter i lenghten
the ffc. any advise would be helpful.

thanks runawayClick to view attachment

My new LCD had a 10 pin ffc connector which was quite small like 5mm wide. In the process of trying to connect it to a extender it tore off from the silver 10 pins at the wafer. Fustrated I tried several different ways until succeeding by placing the extender directly over the 10 pins on the wafer and clipping it with a plastic flat clip I found laying around and hot glued it. Now this may work also with a small black binder clip but you have to some how insulate the biting part of the clip so that it won't cross any contacts on the wafer or the extender. It may take a little dexterity on your part to perfectly align the extender pins with the wafer pins and not have them cross each other. With several tries I got mine in place and hot glued it so it wouldn't move. Also, remember which pin is pin1 on that side of the panel to pin1 on the other side.

Edit: disregard the above I just noticed that the extender will not line up with the otherside because it's tapered. I'd suggest if you know someone who can solder individual wires and to which areas on the panel to connect them then give that a shot.

Just edited my last post. I just noticed that your ffc is tapered and will not line up with the otherside. Unless, of course the same width of pins is found on both wafers.

Edit: Here's a pic of my solution to my board.

my ffc is attached to the board good the ffc is tore right behind the shiny silver pins i thought that after buying 6 inch extension i would plug it into little board then i would use the zif connector to attach to the old cable (after taping it up)because 17 of my pins still touch so i thought that i could jump wires to the three pins and then to the three pins on the end of the zif connector.

guys i was under the impression that the zif connector had two seperate slots for the cable 1 ffc in one slot one in the other, i was wrong. i saw a post where some one had two zif connectors with metal pins on the end and he had connected them by soldering them. does any body know where to get these?

PLEASE POST reply if u know, cant go further with ffc broken.
thanks

problem solved well it is weird i thought that i might try to hook it all up and to my amazement it worked.
lesson is if there is a tear in your ffc it might not be the end of lcd plug it in u might get lucky.

Yeah, not all pins are used also. I stripped my Viewsonic VG175 and was in the process of putting it back together and took a short cut. That's when I ended up ripping all 40 of my ribbing cable. It was also double sided. Traces ran back to back with a plastic in between.

I've manage to bridge all of the traces with strands of wires. It works like it never happened.

It wasn't hard for me, because I'm a rework tech and I have all the tools for the job. (Microscope). :-)
