Overkill, I know. But seriously, I am having trouble balancing between a value 17 and all kinds of input mods, tweaks, and such needed vs. some that are out there that can suport HD in various ways. Where is this good balance? I'm getting too caught up in the details and not making any progress... HELP!

The good balance you are seeking lies within yourself. You need to sit down with yourself and figure out what you really want to do with your PJ and then go from there. Ultimately the decision will be based on a balance of the features you have prioritized and the cost that you are comfortable with.

You probably should start by making sure that your monitor has a nice quick response time. Possibly the best thing to do is read some more 17 plogs and see if you see something you really like.

That is a nice monitor and the one I use. However, I have read that it is not a good choice for gaming according to a review online which I cannot locate. Another thing to think about is what you will be using your projector for the most, movies, tv, gaming, karaoke (you laugh, but it works great!) laugh.gif The things that I like most about the MFM-HT75W are the number of inputs and the remote. It was expensive but there is no need for a PC, transcoder or N6. I can't tell you how nice it is to adjust the picture or select the input from the couch instead of getting up and doing it by hand, it can be a pain when you knock over your beer because it's dark.

well...if I had no financial constraints, I'd actually go with minoten's 15 inch hd panel....It will do 1920X1080i/p native....The smaller size would give you better light output...

Unfortunately Toms Hardware tested this LCD and some of the results were a long way from the specs, especially in the response time where they measured as high as 60ms! Here is a link to their tests:

Has anyone who has used this one noticed bad ghosting in gaming?
Miklopolis
So far no ghosting but I haven't tested it in the PJ yet. I played some 360 (fight night, project gotham) while it was still in it's monitor form and dint notice any. I'll see if I can have my buddy bring the 360 back over to test it out this weekend.

No ghosting on mine playing F.E.A.R, Doom III and watching HD movies/TV.

Are Sony's easy to strip down?
If yall are skeptical about this one due to reviews and such, what others come close?
HDTV, Gameing, DVD, 1080,720,yadda yadda
I want to spend the money to do it right the first time,
so that I may enjoy it for years with out much mod.

I haven't found another 17" LCD that has DVI-HDCP, which will let you hook up an HDTV set-top box, as well as HD-DVD/Blu-Ray later on. That's the big selling point for this one.

I agree!!!

The money I shelled out over time, buying gizmos, (some fair, some really bad) trying to get everything to work with a 17” PC monitor is much better spent on a compatible TV with lots of inputs. biggrin.gif

I'd rather use the Sony panel only because it is HDCP compliant. (damn that DRM crap >:( )

Anyone disasembled this beast or seen somewhere it has been done?

Yes, that is a HUGE issue and it's why I'm planning to use the Sony. I think I'm gonna build a couple of others first, though - a 7" Liliput and prolly a 15.4" Proview. But those will be for practice and/or gifts - the main event will be that Sony 17" WS HDTV, driven by a digital cable HDTV Tuner/PVR.

There's just no other cost-effective way to get real (meaning non-OTA) live HD content onto your screen than starting with some HDTV solution.

I'm actually not concerned about that what-so-ever. There will be a hack for it at some point...Not to mention, the panel is only reliant on the controller board...Which if they make one with hdcp later, I could use...Honestly...I don't see this drm stuff for hd movies lasting very long....Once people find out that they have to buy new tvs for it they won't buy it......

@Syscrush:I warn you on the use of a 15.4 widescreen proview right now. It's native resolution is 1280X800...it will not do 720p native. So if you hook up anything other than a computer, you will have problems.....

I'm aware of that, but thanks anyhow for the pointer. The 7" Lilliput and 1.54" Proview projects will be for different intended usages than the final HD setup.
